Overview & Reviews
Toyota releases the Double Cab. A new StepSide version is available, and the S-Runner sport truck debuts. Revised front styling and new alloy wheels give the 2001 Toyota Tacoma a more rugged look. New exterior colors and option package content shuffling sum up the obvious changes for 2001.
- Powerful engine choices, attractive styling, competent off-road capabilities, crew-cab configuration.
- Uncomfortable seats, high prices, aging design, no third or fourth door on Xtracabs.

One hell-of-an off roader - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By TejasYOTA - June 8 - 1:06 pmIn stock form this truck is very offroad capable. Good balance and grip and plenty of power. Only main gripe is the lack of a 5 speed when it was introduced and the damn placement of the digital clock. The electronic rear diff lock works great too. I only wish they offered a front locker too and offer the driver side grab handle on the a-pillar. It was deleted from the LIMITED versions. What marketing bozo thought of that?!

Little Truck - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By Crazymagman - March 15 - 12:33 pmThis is a great little truck. The steering feel is better than my Maxima, and the truck is very responsive to quick steering actions. There isnt a ton of power from the 2.4L automatic, but I bought it for a daily driver and to haul things for the house, so its just what I need. The stepside bed really sets off the styling of the truck, and Ive only seen one other stepside Tacoma with the same wheels that mine came with.

Great Truck - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By sockman - February 17 - 2:00 amLove the Tacoma Crew Cab! It is a great truck and is the best looking small truck out there. Looks great, however it doesnt ride quite like its big brother the Tundra. I do highly recommend this truck over the other small trucks.

If I had to do over, I would - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By Kev - August 6 - 10:00 amThis is the first truck that Ive even owned and I love it. Father had a 87 with over 300K and I got tired of borrowing it. (excuse I gave the wife) Saw the 4 door and fell in love. Last one on the lot, test drove it, came back and asked where do I sign.

Update from OKHunter - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By OKHunter - May 1 - 9:30 amUpdate to a review written not long after I bought the truck. Now have almost 130K miles. Did the normal timing chain/water pump at around 90K, and have had all the scheduled maintenance performed. Only problem I thought was a design flaw was the front ball joints, which wore out at about 60K miles, due to poorly designed seals. Also replaced the stock muffler w/ a Flowmaster, and the stock air filter w/ a K&N cold air induction kit; that raised the mileage to about 19 mpg combined. I plan to drive this thing until the wheels fall off, then Im going to put em back on and drive it until they fall off again. If you want a solid truck for the long haul, look no further.

Class of its own - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By accelrviii - April 19 - 5:23 pmI drove mostly American made pickups while in high school. After driving one of these Toyota pickups, I will never own anything else. Its really a no brainer. Looks, performance and yes untouched reliability put it way above the rest. I have 135,000 miles on mine and no problems. Toyota will never have financial troubles when they make trucks like these! These trucks will be around for ever.

Think of it as an investment - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By tacoma, california - April 10 - 2:00 amThis is the 2nd Tacoma Ive had. Im keeping this one as long as it keeps running. If you are looking for a small truck (S10, Frontier, Ranger, etc) do not make the mistake of buying anything but Toyota. Reliability and resale value do not even come close with the others. The first one I had I sold because it didnt have the xtracab. It had 34k on it and never one problem. The new one has 13k and is much nicer than the first (3-in-1 stereo is a great standard feature). The gas mileage is great and the ride is much better than the 97 I used to have.
