Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • I love my Truck - 2003 Toyota Tacoma

A solid build, fun to drive truck. It has about 16K miles and absolutely no problems yet. It has a few minor quirks mentioned below but overall I highly recommend it. Doing most of the maintainace myself I know that this truck is relatively easy to work on.

I bought this truck new in 98 and have never had any problems. Only expenses have been reg maint and gas. In the snow this veh is unstoppable. Best truck I have ever owned. The 2.7 4 cyl is a little low on power, but has never really been a problem. I always average about 20 mpg. After 155,000 trouble free miles I would only replace it with another identical Tacoma.

I just bought the 4 door in the magnetic charcoal grey color. All I can say is it is an awesome looking truck, that rides excellent. Toyotas are very reliable cars, everyone in my family has one, so I do not worry about having bought an unreliable product.

  • Everything I needed - 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Bought new in march 08. Got the base model. Its the forth toyota Ive driven but, the first truck. Its done everything Ive needed it for. Its hauled 2000 lbs on trailer, gone through snow, handles mountain roads great, and gets 20-22 mpg on my 70 mile commute to work.

Drives quiet and smooth, brakes seem a little soft; occasional "surge" at stop with foot on brake pedal, but nothing major. Great ergonomics and functionality in interior; bed is well designed/functional; lots of good standard features. Overall, a very good value for the price.

Extremely reliable vehicle. Slim profile (compared to full-sized trucks and SUVs)and adequate ground clearance allows one to maneuver in tight off-road situations. Dependable, tight vehicle thats lots of fun to drive.

05 Double Cab S/B 4X4 V6 5Speed Auto, SR5 with trailer towing, limited slip Nice truck, much better interior room (I fit!!) I’m 6’6” and a bit fluffy, plenty of power, but smooth and quiet. I’ve only had my truck for about 1.5 weeks, but I’m impressed. The new 5 speed transmission was built for this V6 and economy. In town the engine is turning 1,200-1,700 RPM getting around 18 MPG. On the road @77 MPH / 20,6 MPG, @ 63 / 23.6 MPG. At 70 the engine is only turning 2K The ride is a little stiff (its a truck ya know) but comfortable, quiet on the road. I compared Dakota, Canyon/Colorado and Tacoma, The Taco won hands down for value, fit and finish

  • Great Little Taco - 1999 Toyota Tacoma

I will have to say that Toyota did a fairly good job with this truck however they did cut corners in some places. One place that does need improvement would be the seats. Long trips or bumpy roads, I have a lot of back aches with this. Also the interior on some models were equipped with clocks and some without. Why a clock you say? Why not it looks cool and completes the look of just a blank black square. Upgrade you say, well yeah but for $80.00, come on I mean go to Wal-mart and buy a cheaper one and tape it over the black hole. Over all though good truck and excellent duribility.

  • The best I have found - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

After having a 82 SR5 for 260,000 miles with no real problem I was looking for a new vehicle to replace it as there wasnt enough room for the family. I looked atother trucks and setled on the Tacoma 4 dr V6. Unbelivable power and a turning radius better than my old SR5. It also is the most comfortable ride for long distances I have ever driven. I do not recomend lightly, this truck is perfect.

I have just over 8000 miles on my Taco and am very pleased with the truck. Adequate power, comfortable ride, good looks and fun to drive.
