Overview & Reviews
Toyota releases the Double Cab. A new StepSide version is available, and the S-Runner sport truck debuts. Revised front styling and new alloy wheels give the 2001 Toyota Tacoma a more rugged look. New exterior colors and option package content shuffling sum up the obvious changes for 2001.
- Powerful engine choices, attractive styling, competent off-road capabilities, crew-cab configuration.
- Uncomfortable seats, high prices, aging design, no third or fourth door on Xtracabs.

Best of 13 Vehicles Ive Owned. - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By flyfishing - October 9 - 10:00 amfor 85,000 miles in less than 3 years, I have put about 8,000 true off-road miles on it and can say it is the best built vehicle Ive owned. Im looking at another one, but feel comfortable putting 3-400,000 on it. Get one!

I am proud to own this one. - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By bigney - September 2 - 2:00 amI work with guys that have driven a gazillion miles in their tacomas with little or no problems which is why I bought this one. Ive only ridden 15000 miles in it yet but theyve all been enjoyable. Had so fun on the beach watching others get stuck. It feels tight and rugged. I wouldve gotten the V6 if I couldve sprung the cash at the time.

Its been a pleasure - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By AdamE - June 17 - 1:56 amWell Im selling my truck after three great years (only because Ive decided to become a sedan guy). I could not be happier with my Tacoma over the years. Got regular oil changes and that was it for the whole three years. No mechanical problems ever.

Tough Tacoma - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By Sticks - June 1 - 10:00 amWhere Im from, most everybody drives big Detroit Irons. Where the big boys rule and the Domestics are the tool, my Tacoma may be just beginning to fancy the imaginations of the the local old guard. Not only Do I often turn heads with the stylings of my shiny black workhorse, but I recieve reluctant, sometimes mumbled or tongue and cheek, compliments and eagerly anticipated questions regarding her performance. Proving Grounds- Botswana River in Canada! 20 plus miles of all-terrain madness (Rocks, mud, sand, water, climbs, etc) Result? Speechless!...and it wasnt just me!

Almost Like my Last One - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By S-Runnin_SoCal - May 14 - 10:00 amReplaced my 1990 SR5 V6-XtraCab 5-Sp 4X2 w/150,000 miles with a new one, but the closest thing to it Toyota makes to replace it is the S-Runner. The interior on the old one used higher quality materials. The 2001 has thin cheap plastic all through the interior. The 90 had all analog gauges. The new model goes with more idiot lights. No rattles on the 90 even after 150,000 logged on the clock. My 2001 S-Runner rattles like crazy right out of the box. The gearing on the S-Runner is too tall, requiring a lot of clutch slipping to get rolling. I like the new engine on the S-Runner, but I wish I had my old SR5- V6 back.

THE BEST - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By dave - March 17 - 10:20 amI have been thoroughly happy with this car. Although the back seat is not exactly spacious, it is great to have a spot for an extra person or a bunch of extra stuff. You can actually fit quite a bit of stuff back there.

Totally Awesome! - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By Rod - February 25 - 10:56 pmMy 2001 pre-runner is nothing more than amazing. I have over 70,000 miles with no mechanical problems at all. I guess this is why you never see the 01 to 04 on a used car lot. Nobody sells them once they have one!

Love it - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By Gregg - January 6 - 8:33 pmBought it used but with transferable warranty, great right? Never had to use the warranty. Bought a fully loaded Tacoma, off road package, tow package. I put duel exhaust on, cold air intake, throttle body spacer. This truck has more power and better fuel mileage now. Dont do much off roading but the times I have I was very impressed. One time I was looking at a piece of remote property in the winter on a small single car dirt road with nowhere to turn around, I literlly slid down a hill hoping there was another way out, nope. The 4x4 shot me back up the hill with ease. I really love this truck. I have never had a single problem with it in 5 years.

What A Feeling! - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By Stasho - December 26 - 10:00 amBought the truck one year old with 34,000kms on it. Compared it with a Tundra but found the 4 doors on the Tacoma much easier to use. Dont recall having this much fun driving any other vehicle! Interior comfy, but without frills. Powertrain is a beauty with legendary Toyota reliability.
