  • Out of the box, works like a Porsche - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

A head turner. The indigo ink access cab 4x4 is great looking. Made me look into pickups (I had a 1989 two-door Montero that is an awesome BEAST) as a new means of transport. Drives like a car, interior is spartan beauty (oxymoron, but it works), storage is phenomenal, and instrumentation is thoughtfully placed and effective. Performance with the 6 spd manual trans. is responsive and throaty. Yes, a throaty pickup. Went with the sport package, and glad for that -- great price package through USAA buying service with the dealer. They through in a little lagniappe: the slidable D-rings in the bed. The orange lighting is a little 1980s, but hey, thats not entirely bad, is it?

  • Two nagging issues - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

This truck looks awesome, the fit and finish is perfect, and for a 2.7L 4 cylinder it has plenty of get up and go. Gas mileage has been on average about 19 MPG combined. My only two complaints; between 55 - 65 MPH theres a noticable steering wheel flutter which occurs intermittantly. When using the A/C the power loss on the engine is agonizing. Enough that you have to gear down to go up any hills you would normally not have to down shift for.

  • A great starter vehicle for anyone. - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

The handling and performance that this truck offers is great. I have never owned a 4 cylinder vehicle in my life, all I ever owned was v6 and v8. when I drove it I could have sworn it was a v6. Gets approx. 25-27 miles to the gallon, now a days thats just what a buyer is looking for.

  • Good but not perfect... - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

This is my third Toyota Truck and one selected after much comparison. For me the size fits my needs, and Im impressed by the interior design. The V6 is impressive, but not overly fuel efficient compared to Chevys great V8s. Chassis strength is much improved, handling is good. As others have noted in user forums, the rear suspension is weak, mine bottoming out after I added a 150lb. cap. I had to have my srpings rebuilt independently at my cost, not covered under warranty. Additionally, the 5-speed automatic transmission shifts very poorly, slow to make a decision and often like it doesnt know what gear it should be in! Hopefully Toyota will release new software to cure this problem.

  • Solid ride - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I cant believe people still consider the Tacoma a "small" truck. This thing grew massively on its last re-design. It is not the same Toyota truck I learned to drive on in 1986. I am a heavyweight myself, and find the truck very accommodating. The interior looks good, great exterior styling, and the bed with all of its features is the best design out there. The economy of the engine is great too.

  • A good buy - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I bought this truck brand new with 18 miles on the odometer. It now has over 45,000 miles and I still love it. Decent gas mileage for a truck, plenty of power, great offroad capability with the 4WD model, and awesome styling. The only gripe I have is why Toyota didnt include a locking tailgate. Other than that I love the Tacoma, and I get lots of compliments on it too. Will definitely buy another Toyota in the future.

  • Great truck - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Good truck for the money. Good on gas, lots of room interior and exterior for long bed. Nothing fancy, very quiet.

  • V6 power and Stick Shift - Nice Bed - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I have owned the new Taco for 1.5 months and in that time have driven it to/frm work on highways, moving 1500 lbs. of rocks, full bed of mulch, the truck is great, the composite material bed is always great and washes out well, my kid said something I wouldnt have even thought of "the bed doesnt get as hot in the sun, like the neighbors truck bed," a Nissan I think, the power coming from that V6 is excellent, the manual shifter is the only way to go, I thought maybe I should get the automatic, but really glad I searched for the 6 speed, no slush box for me, the manual takes a little to get used to but then the real fun begins, only drawback is I am getting only 16 mph.

  • 2006 tacoma - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Performance is great, but has vibration and harmonic hum starting at about 54 mph. Has been there since new, havent taken back to dealer yet. Also, 2 of the wheel center caps will not fit straight, are crooked. These are the only problems so far.

  • Good... but I expected better - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I went down in size for fuel economy from a full size Chevy to the Tacoma. For what was sacrificed in power, Im only getting on average 19 mpg. In hilly terrain or in windy conditions on the interstate its work to drive. Having to constantly downshift to make it up hills & then upshift at the top. Ive had to have the springs replaced twice as they become very noisy. Loud squeaking on any bumps or even when getting in/out of the truck. Not quite the quality level expected from Toyota.
