Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • Nice truck - 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Ive had it for 3 months and have taken it on a variety of different terrains. Its great off road, especially with the TRD package.

  • double cab 4wd - 2004 Toyota Tacoma

This has been a great little truck. It is easy to park. Has plenty of room for the kids. The 4wd is excellent. Its quiet on the road. The bed needs to be larger and it could use a little more power for towing.

  • 4wd double cab limited - 2004 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I purchased a 2004 limited double cab 4wd for 24800. The off road capability is more than I expected, especially the low end torque in 4low. I am disappointed with the quality of the cruise control. The gas mileage is poor considering the size and weight of the truck. Overall I am very happy with my purchase. PS: the dealers have more room to work on the limiteds and stay away from the extra mile options $$$.

  • Awesome Truck! - 1997 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I purchased my 1997 Toyota Tacoma used. It only had 46,000 miles on it. I have never owned such a great vehicle. This is my first used vehicle, and I have had not one single problem with it. Even after 72,200 miles. I would recommend a Toyota to anyone looking for a vehicle.

  • The Drivetrain is a joke - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

The drivetrain of the 2016-2017 Toyota Tacoma is a total joke. This engine transmission combo belongs in a minivan, not an off-road truck. Toyota should be ashamed. Additionally, the infotainment system is also a joke! Where is Carplay or Google support? Toyota seriously needs a team of UX people for their software designs.

  • A nicely equipped truck for under $20K - 2008 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

The 4-cyl 5-speed manual trans combo is well matched. When you get on it, the power is very impressive. I am getting a consistent 24-27.5 MPG. Handled a large 7ft sofa and a tall chest of drawers with a hitch. The area below the dash and the steering column is small for people with large feet. Cabin is a bit noisy at highway speeds when crosswinds are strong. No frt tie-down d-rings as in the rear. HUGE BOO-BOO. The truck drives like a car for comfort on long trips. All the power accessories work well and are well designed. OEM spkrs chintzy. GREAT A/C with very adjustable vents. Adjustable lumbar a great feature. Changed oil today, easy, just have a cap style filter wrench.

  • TACOMA 4WD 2.7L 5 SPEED - 2003 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Ive always wanted a Toyota 4wd pickup, and I bought one about a year ago. It took me a while to get used to the 2.7L engine and the 5sp. But I was used to high reving engines, and this one almost runs like a diesel. Keep the revs low and change gears early, and she runs great. This is definitely a truck engine. You can feel the torque on the low end. I had an old Mazda B2000 and Nissan Frontier, and liked them both. But they would bottom out if I carried a heavy load. Not this baby! The Tacoma is made for haulin! But dont get the 4 cyl if youre always in a hurry. It has plenty of power to haul and tow, but its not a race engine. MPG: 21-22

  • Great Combination - 2005 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

So far a great truck. It drives great, fits in my garage, rides smooth and stable and has good high visibility, good bed size w/ decent hauling ability. I started with the larger engine but after being stuck with unwanted options, I tried the 4cl. The acceleration is not great but neither was the 6cl. w/ auto. The smaller engine w/ 5 speed gives me more than adequate power for highway merges, etc. The smaller engine also gets very respectable mileage (about 21 mpg overall) although I do a lot of highway / rural driving. The SR5 with alloys was a real complete package for me. 2 kids (9 and 7) fit in the rear seats with decent leg room but the srtaight backs would get old on a long ride.

  • What a junker - 1997 Toyota Tacoma

This peice of junk was never any good from day one! Its just one thing after another. Then you take it in to be repaired and they cant figure out what is wrong! I will NEVER BY A TOYOTA AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome - 2002 Toyota Tacoma
