  It is night and day between the 04 and 05 Tacoma in terms of Size, Power and Comfort. The 05 Tacoma has a lot more leg and head room to accomodate larger occupants and the cabin does not have that claustrophobic feel to it. The Power was increased from 190hp in a 3.4L to 245hp in a 4.0L V6. Cruising at 70mph has the engine purring at 2500 rpm. Fuel consuption has been about 260 miles per tank. The seats have been redone to make them more comfortable. I was lucky to have been on the build team project from the drawing stage to actual production. I know first hand that the designers took into consideration a lot of the customers concerns and desires. This is the best truck Toyota has built.

  I bought it in 05 for about $33,000.00 This truck with 50K miles is a money pitt. The service is way over priced. The recalls lists are long yet are minor compared to the list of problems toyota dosnt cover. 1 frame is so weak that it CAVED IN AT THE MOTOR MOUNTS. The result 8 weeks in the shop countless calls to toyota and b/s forever to have them say I need a new frame and it would be around $13,000 to repair my truck what a joke, not a funny one. 2 Newest problem @ 86Kmiles bad cats all four, around $5000.00 to replace. 5 weeks in shop to have them tell me that toyota will cover $1000.00 of it after I pay in full. I cant afford it and no smog w/light on so Im SOL save your money

  At the time this little beauty was unmatched in the market place. Probably still is. However, to make it perfect, for guys who are not small, the seat could be larger for better leg support, the noise level, was really noticable from my Sport Trac and the suspension bottoms out way to often over large bumps that can occur on our nations rail track crossings.

  Ive had this truck for just under a month now, and I must admit....I LOVE IT!!! Im very happy with this truck, although there are a few things that "irk" me about it (see Suggested Improvements below). Like most, I am on a tight budget, and I wanted the most truck for the money. A Toyota, with 4 doors, AND a full sized bed for under 25K, I was sold. Now, I see its the Motor Trend 2005 Truck of the Year....Wow, What a feeling!! The ride is smooth, quiet and pleasant. The interior & exterior is BEAUTIFUL (Sport Package...well worth the extra $$$). The electrical outlet & removable tie-downs in the bed are a nice touch too! Exceptional value! Highly recommended!

  This is great tough truck with exceptional performance and handling with very good fuel economy 21 mpg. This is a rugged strong truck.

  Somewhat Disappointed - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

  Despite the rave reviews, I was disappointed in the new 05 Tacoma. Have had Toyota trucks sine 1985 and there things to really like about this 05 version, but, they missed the mark in a few areas. My same major complaints about the 02 Tacoma still exist - mainly way too much engine noise in the cab. For some reason, Toyota stopped insulating under the hood and it makes a big difference. My 92 Toyota 4x4 was quieter than anything made since including the 05. On the plus side, maintenance of this truck is super simple. No more oil change hassling. The oil filter now sits on top of the engine within very easy reach and the oil drain plug is a snap to access w/o the need to remove anything else.

  This is my third Toyota pickup: 94 Hilux; 03 Tacoma; 05 Tacoma. My dealer is driving the 94 Hilux, a guy in town has my 03, and I am happy with my 05 Tacoma. These trucks never quit! I installed an aftermarket moon roof and the Dee Zees to offset the looks. Truck has good starting, no hesitation in acceleration, and offers a very smooth ride (I have the long bed double cab which has plenty of room).

  This truck is great as far as easy access to the back because of the access doors. It rides and drives great and feels solid on the road. It is good on gas but of course I wish it was better with the current price of fuel today. I love the way the truck sits up higher than most 2-wheel drive pickups because it gives you the feel that it is a 4-wheel drive and your vision of the road and traffic around you is much improved over lower 2WD Pickups. I love the style and design of this truck.
