Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • GOOD TRUCK - 2003 Toyota Tacoma

8 MONTHS AND 4500 MILES LATER, THE TRUCK IS PERFORMING FLAWLESSLY, GETTING 19 CITY & 21 HIGHWAY MPG. GOOD POWER, ONLY DISAPPOINTMENT IS THE TRACTION IN SNOW OR GRAVEL, EVEN WITH THE LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL. TOWS MY BOAT EFFORTLESSLY.

The new V-6 engine coupled with the new 6 speed transmission is an ill fit. The engine struggles to maintain highway speeds without a lot of transmission downshifting. Small hills and overpasses strain the drive train to the point of frustration and distraction. After breaking the engine in according to Toyota specifications, I towed a 12 trailer loaded with a 1500# ATV (total GVW of 3500#) 800 miles. The trip was torture for the truck and myself. Fuel consumption is disappointing. Pure highway mileage is 20.2 mpg. Combined mileage is 18.1 mpg. Towing mileage was 11.8 mpg. Toyota did not get the engine/transmission properly tuned. I dont want to leave the impression I am down on Toyota in general. I have owned three Toyota trucks in the past, and they were great trucks. Toyota seriously missed my expectations on the 2016 Tacoma.

A bullet proof truck!! This is the best truck that I have every driven. I use it daily to drive to work and it always a great ride. The prerunner crew cab is the only way to go! My wife will drive it in a hot minute.

  • None like it on the road today - 1997 Toyota Tacoma

This is an incredible truck. Good looking, reliable, fast, hardworking. I bought it with 54k on it and now it has 167k. Never has skipped a beat. Have taken it offroad many times and it did the job effortlessly. This is quite possibly the best truck you can buy.

  • 05 Tacoma - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

I have had the truck for a month and have put about 2400 miles on it. I chose the 4.0 and 6 speed manual. I picked the TRD Off Road 4X4 so I could get the following options I wanted. The 110 volt plug in the back is sweet, but should run off of a seperate battery, allowing the truck to be turned off while using it. The BF Goodrich tires were a requirement. Wanted the rear locker, although I am a bit disappointed (in the sand anyway). Still needed 4x4 to get around. Driving lights were also a desired extra. They add considerably in deer country. The truck overall is everything I wanted. Love the ride, manuverability and everything else aside from the lack of a 6th seat. Recommend.

  • Toyota 4 me - 2007 Toyota Tacoma

I had a Nissan Pathfinder that had a 3.5 litre and never got over 16 mpg. This Toyota gets 20 mpg with a 4.0 litre. I have a TRD package so the bilstein shocks help the ride when I pull my 24 foot boat. The limited slip diff works well on slippery ramps.

  • RIP my dearly departed Tacoma - 1999 Toyota Tacoma

This truck was the best vehicle I have ever had. She made me fall in love with trucks and Toyotas. I fell in love with her after I learned how to drive a stick. I bought her with 60k miles and put 100k on her before her unfortunate end. She saved my life after colliding with a Grand Am. I have never had to do any major repairs or anything else besides routine maintainence. She took all the abuse I gave her. She got me through a very bad winter back in 08. She was even my home for a couple of months. I miss her dearly. I cry everytime I think about her. I havent had a decent car since...not even my 4Runner. Hold onto this car forever. This car will never let you down.

  • Finally got my TACO! - 2009 Toyota Tacoma

I been waiting 3 years to get this truck and it was worth the wait. I splurged and got the V-6 4dr dbl cab 4x4 TDR pack. I wanted to put the hype to the test and took it 4 wheeling and it did not disappoint. Rides like a car with exceptional power. Luv this truck.

  • Tacoma rating - 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Although a bit pricey, the Tacoma offers reliability, performance, and is economical to operate for a truck. It pulls a load well, within its capability, although fuel mileage suffers with a loaded trailer. When I trade again, I will opt for the longer bed for convenience. I get over 21 MPG with my Tacoma. Some of the increase might be attributable to having a cab high fiberglass topper and a "cat-back" TRD exhaust system along with a K&N air filter. All in all, its a great truck !

  • 2013 GL 450 to 2016 Tacoma - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Great truck, Entune is great. The Tacoma is easy to drive. Go get one. I have the 2016 Double cab with long bed. No issues with transmission, smooth and easy shifts.
