  • Great Truck - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I have the 4wd 2.7L 4 cyl std trans. The truck is economical (22-26 mpg), comfortable and dependable. The interior is comfortable and utilitarian. Mine is a work truck and hauls my tools, firewood and bike with ease. It is comfortable on long trips, has a great stereo with disc player. My only gripe is that the speedometer reads high (about 8- 10%) with stock tires. Although it isnt that important to me I also like the styling.

  • Poor Suspension - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I got my SR5 4x4 access cab and loved it from day 1, and after a few months of driving and hitting a few little bumps on pavement & dirt roads (even while empty and just me driving) the rear end would bottom out and the suspension is less then standard. I couldnt be. that Toyota would allow only 2 leaf springs in the rear of any of their trucks. Otherwise the truck runs great & I think they have since upgraded this after 2006 - or at least I hope so. Everything else has been perfect.

  • Disappointed but still a good truck - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I purchase a 2006 Tacoma Pre-Runner Jan of this year, it is my second Tacoma and I really have enjoyed the old one as well as the new 2006. There are some disappointments on this truck, if you happen to be traveling and there is a need to hang your clothing by using hangers you will not be able to see out of the rear view mirror, it will completely block your view. I find it hard to believe that the engineers at Toyota actually allow this to happen this is a hassaress and should have been discuss and relocated as the truck was been tested (is obvious they did not test the truck well). The brakes are spongy, squeal like a pig, hard to stop.

  • Truck of Trucks - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Overall the Tacoma is what a truck should be modeled after. Rugged, reliable and fun to drive. If one is the market for a true 4X4 truck, buy a Tacoma.

  • Overrated - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

When I initially bought this 2006 TRD Tacoma, I was initially blown away with the styling and capability. Did a lot of bragging for Yota and probably sold a few vehicles for them. Fast forward 2 years, "the honeymoon is over" and it time for real solid engineering and time tested design to take over but I feel that this is not the one. This truck has not left me on the side of the road but is giving "indications of potential unreliable conditions" i.e. the tranny works but feels like it has begun a death march. The engine runs but sounds like it could have some problems in the not so distant future. learned my lesson, you be smart, learn from my mistake, buy an F-150, ford Im coming home.

  • Disappointed in New Toyota - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Toyota is selling new trucks on the the reputation built on earlier very good trucks. I owned a 1993 DX extra Cab and which was a bullet proof, high quality, wonderful vehicle. It was very tough, well built and solid... used as a truck... no rattles after 13 years of hard work. My 2006 (1,500 miles) is cheaply built, value engineered to minimal truck standards and will not take truck like use. It shakes, rattles and rumbles. The frame is not stiff enough (open channel) and the dam truck wanders all over the road. It came with cheap Dunlop tires andis mostly plastic. Use like my old Toyota will quickly destroy this truck. So in short - I spent $31K on a car like truck that is really a car.

  • 4X4 Beast reliable fun safe! - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

The only bad thing about my truck is the poor fuel economy. I get about 19 mpg. Other than that its a beast. Back seat fits adults just fine. I have pulled out several lifter 4x4 diesel trucks out of the mud, snow, and sand. Pulls loads great. 4X4 like no other and it soaks up the bumps great!

  • Avoid Toyota!! - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Shifting shudder and large clunk when stopping and starting "just part of the design" per Toyota. See http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/tacoma/66233-toyota-addresses-tacoma-transmission/ for other reports. Toyota quality and customer service terrible! Also, according to Toyota, it is acceptable for their dealers to put used tires on a new truck when the dealer is unable to fix another customers tire balance problem. Whatever you do, dont make the mistake of buying a Toyota!! You will not get what you pay for -- youll only hear that your problems are "design features".

  • Get the v6 - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Great truck in every aspect except I purchased the 4 cyl. It is my only regret. It took some getting used to, since I traded in a loaded 4x4 tahoe for this truck, but now I like it a lot. I highly recommend this vehicle. Make sure you get the v6 if you tow anything.

  • Good reliable lightweight hauler - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

My 92 truck was maintenance free for 175,000 miles except for a radiator replacement. My 06 is nice to drive and has so far been reliable with 30,000 miles on it. I have had problems with my clutch squeaking, not a maintenance issue, but horribly annoying all the same. I will be taking it in again for another clutch repair. It is still under warranty. The annoying part is that I will have to deal with this again in the future when it is not under warranty. The 4 cylinder manual is peppy and responsive. I like the good gas mileage for a truck this size. Watch out for the sliding rear window. I accidentally broke mine and it was going to cost over $800 to replace, a major Toyota ripoff. Mine now has plexiglass, a total repair cost of $15.
