Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

Quite simply the best intermediate pickup made. From style to quality of build, it is outstanding. The ride is very good and the bucket seats are fine for me and my wife. I dont understand why all the criticism of the seating. Well done Toyota.

I have had this truck only a week. I LOVE it! Great power even without the supercharger and i have gotten many compliments on it already. I find the hand brake to be very dated and the interior design to be very basic but even with these downfalls, i find it to be a great truck!

  • The worst toyota I have owned out of 6! - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

The car shudders when coming to a stop virtually all the time. When the car is cold there is a definite clunk in the rear end when coming to a stop. Dealer says it is normal. I have vibrations and noise in the cabin that I have never experienced in any car. Gas mileage is about 19 mpg on the highway at 75 mph. There is not enough power to stay in 6th gear if there is any headwind or incline. The new transmission is okay at lower speeds but not 75 mph. Gas mileage in town is good at 18mpg. I do not have a problem with acceleration as long as you use the ect button. $39,000 truck does not come with mud flaps or power seats.

  • What do I fix - 2003 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I purchased this truck when I was looking for a 4x4 and ended up being happy even though it is a 2wd. Other than general maintenance I have yet to repair anything ( in fact most mechanics Ive talked to have yet to make repairs on this model). I love my taco and I never had any problems with the interior but I think they had an access of clocks cause they used the same one in my 87 4runner.

  • FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

This dual cab mid sized is just what this consumer needed. The hood scoop makes it look kinda masculine. It is masculine. Have got 7,000 miles on it and everything is good. Got 20.9 mpg last weekend overall on trip to Charleston. Enjoyed the drive.

  • Great truck - 2007 Toyota Tacoma

I drove a Ranger for 14 years prior to this and was happy overall - just needed a new vehicle. The Tacoma is a comfortable, powerful, good-looking truck. My mileage is 18-21 MPG so far. I use my AC quite alot and drive city 60% of the time. Be aware that the brake and gas pedals are very close together in this truck and the steering wheel does not telescope as much as it could. The sound system (basic from factory) is terrible. I would strongly recommend upgrading at the time of sale.

  • buyers remorse - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Due to an accident that totaled my 02 Tacoma extra cab prerunner, I purchased a 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport access cab, believing it would be the latest greatest version of the Tacoma I lost. Boy was I mistaken. My 02 was fantastic, everything a truck should be! From the experience of the 02, and moving from it to the 2016..., I gotta tell ya, the 2016 is everything a truck should NOT be. The 2016 Tacoma is symptomatic of the history of the automotive industry in general. There comes a point where evolution and innovation produces near perfection... then what follows is sort of critical mass point where further innovation does more to ruin a good thing, than it does to make it better. All the latest technology... more like, way too much technology. I dont want or need a truck to interact with my phone. I dont need or want a screen full of apps in my dash. I have an iPhone... I dont want or need my truck to connect to it. I certainly dont like a truck that beeps when I leave it running and step out of it. I certainly dont like a truck that beeps because my dog is sitting on the passenger seat. I certainly dont like a truck that beeps and flashes it lights EVERY TIME I get in it. I dont like dont like a truck that beeps just because the cab door is open. The technology is so annoying, and insulting, to anyone who could care less about technology like I do. The worst part is that although a few customizations can be made to curb the distractions produced by the technology, theres a lot that cant be shut off. The moral of the story is: Id rather be driving and enjoying and writing about that, but Im not... Im too occupied touch screen scrolling through menus of junk that has nothing to do with driving, never did, never will. So whys all this junk in there anyway, thats what I want to know? Im looking to sell this truck in the next year. The more I drive it, the more I hate it.

  • Better than before - 2017 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Purchased this TRD sport in Blazing Blue Pearl in August of 2016. Highway driving I get over 27 mpg at 55-60 mph. Around this small town I am getting 19, which is much better than my 2015 Tacoma with the 4.0 V6. The truck is more comfortable and definitely quieter. I have owned several Tacomas and this one seems to be the best. The navigation works well as do all the apps. I am very happy with this truck.

  • Love this truck! - 1998 Toyota Tacoma

This truck has been a pleasure and a joy to own and drive. It has taken me to Alaska and back, survived many outdoor excursions and has safely gotten me home in many ice and snow storms. I have always felt safe in my truck. I have transported much cargo and two dogs. Life is good with this excellent vehicle. My husband has one too. I will 100% buy another!! Toyota rocks. Cant wait for the hybrid full size.
