Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

Great handling and nice free flow exhaust notes. Mileage is good for this size and power. Had only one fillup so far and went 320 miles on a little less than 16 gallons. Love the close ratios in the 6-speed.

Just got my 06 Tacoma PreRunner, and I love it. It was a long overdue upgrade to my 96 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS. It rides almost like a regular car, but has the height and power you need in a truck. Compared to other vehicles in its class, the Tacoma is a better dollar value, and also an ongoing maintenance value.

Am very pleased with this truck. Excellent build quality, esp. paint. SR5 package has nice amenities. I use the truck mostly back/forth to work. Rides well. Good performance for 4 cyl. Getting 23mpg+. Like innovative one- piece box; made bedliners and spray on coatings obsolete. Wife likes easy handling. Smooth transmission. Handled well in snow; didnt need 4WD.

  • Best Truck I ever owned! - 2008 Toyota Tacoma

I purchased this truck 4 months ago. I traded in my 2003 Tacoma Xcab for this one! I loved my 2003 Tacoma but my 2008 has a much smoother ride. It rides like a car, I love it! Gas mileage isnt the greatest but it is a V-6 truck.

  • Huge Improvement over previous - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

I owned a 2000 Frontier and a 2002 Tacoma crew cab 4wd. The 2005 is light years ahead of the both. Ride, comfort and inside finish are excellent. I compared it to the Nissan which had much to offer but the ride and seats were marginal. If you want a compact 4wd truck, the Tacoma is the best truck/value in the game. This truck is even great for long highway commutes. Only thing they need to add is the power window in the back like the Tundra.

We love our Tacoma. Perfect for my wife to drive and park, good mileage for a 4x4 and plenty of power and room.

Its hard for all of us to believe the price they get for Toyota Tacomas. While relaible ,they are some of the lowest quality interiors next to Kia,s. The small back window, cheap plastic bits and door panels a 5 year old could rip to shreds.Tiny, tinny, and dated comes to mind .I can,t wait till the New Titan by Nissan comes out so I can flog this truck to them .Toyota better update soon ,people are getting on to them .
