  • Overall a great truck - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

This is the 2nd pre-runner Ive owned in the past 5 years (4 Toyotas altogether). Overall, quality is great-what you expect from this company. I bought it for my wife but she liked my 04 V8 4Runner more.

Finally got a truck worth writing about. Downsized from the Ford F150 Lariat with the 5.4 liter gas guzzling engine. I did not lose any comfort in the downsize and gained excellent gas mileage. Got 18 MPG on the first tank and 20 MPG the second tank and that included pulling my bass boat. The 4.0 V6 is a stong engine and the ride is just as comfortable as my F150 Lariat. Transmission and Tow package handled pulling my bass boat with ease. Drove through some pretty tough spots while deer hunting w/o four wheel drive and didnt get stuck. I plan to add the bilstein shocks myself for off road use. Dont have one regret in making the switch.

  • Overall incredible truck. - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Been driving full side trucks all of my life. Chevy 1500, 06 Tundra. I have a 06 prerunner sr5 5 manual, and have to say it is a 10 in every department. And the 2.7L is a top end engine. And at times it feels like a race truck. The whole truck is strong, tight, and fast. It does 80 on the highway at 1/4 throttle with ease. And with its short wheel base. The city and freeway ride, is the best and smoothest. First gear is very short, but once you start shifting through the gears. The top end engine hits, and the truck just pulls and pulls.

After spending endless hours on Edmunds, I decided to pull the trigger. Traded a 01 BMW X5 with 52K miles and 11 pages of maintenance records. What a relief! The Tacomas interior is big, got the 4x2 sport pack with JBL audio and tow. If you dont need 4x4 why haul the extra weight around? First tank of gas gave me 19 mpg (87 RON per manual)combined. Feels solid, seats have good support, plenty of space in the rear, good visibility, suspension is on the spot, not too soft, not too hard, gearbox is smooth (A/T) as far as performance, I only have 220 miles but I can tell you this: 65mph with 1450 rpm is sweet!

  • Great Value - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I bought my access cab with a 4 cylinder and automatic three months ago and have 3k miles. I was a bit concerned about the four cylinder and automatic as far as power is concerned but it runs great, has enough power for what I use it for - commuting and occasionally going to the dump and towing a light trailer. This truck is bigger than my old 91 Mazda pickup, has a bigger engine, carries more, is quieter, more comfortable and still averages 22 mph in everyday use! Toyotas may cost a bit more but they are reliable and hold their value. The old saying is true - you get what you pay for.

  • Awesome Truck! - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I have the access cab with the SR5 package. I use it primarily as a commuter vehicle (100+ miles/day) and household projects. So far, I have hauled one load - approximately 900 pounds of bricks. I did not lose any power, nor did I experience a decline in performance with the increased payload. It struggles going up steep hills. My gas mileage so far (under 600 miles) is approximately 20 MPG HWY. I typically drive 80 MPH at 3k RPM, so I am probably not getting the mileage the truck is capable of. The ride is smooth. Fairly quiet inside. Lots of storage space. Excellent truck for the price!

Got out of Chevy 4 door crew cab. Good truck but 5.3l 8cyl was only averaging 13.2 miles for driving habits. Got 18 on first tank with Taco. 10 gallons less a week. Old truck was very comfortable because of size but I didnt really loose much here. It is actually very comfortable for its size. Prerunner has nice high-ride feel too. Plenty of power.

The only issue that I have is that this model does not come in the automatic transmission. I have had some difficulty in learning on how to drive a manual again but that has not taken away from my overall enjoyment of this truck so far. This truck has a superb ride and feel.

  • Logical Opinion - Tall Man - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

The Tacoma is my fourth Toyota, and second Tacoma (1999). This truck is substantially larger than the previous models and it is wonderful. I am 66", 290 lbs and I fit in the vehicle with plenty of room. I do enjoy the interior and exterior styling and feel it gets decent gas mileage for a truck that is built to be taken off-road. If you are looking for fuel efficiency, I dont know why you would be looking for a 4WD truck. I have 8,800 miles on my Taco and it has not had any problems. The truck has plenty of power when you need it and drives like a truck, which I enjoy. If you want a "car-like" ride, I recommend a 4Runner which I own as well or a Highlander. This is a mans truck!
