Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

I just love my new truck. It rides and drive very nice, and its very quiet inside the cab. The four has plenty power and the ect button will give you more power. I just did not want to spend and extra 4000 dollars on the V6. My truck cost was right around 27000. If your not towing anything the four is fine. I would get a full size truck if I was spending over 33000, so why bother with the V6. My mpg have been 22.5 with 2200 miles.

Back to Toy truck after trying Ford & Saturn- not nearly same quality. Had 90 4x4 Toy P/U and loved it. 100 miles a day- great cruising highway and some offroad. Dont miss 4x4 much- this has height and view I like and handles great. Plenty of power and if this runs like my old truck- just change oil and go. Had 150,000 on my old one and gave it to my brother,

  • Logical Opinion - Tall Man - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

The Tacoma is my fourth Toyota, and second Tacoma (1999). This truck is substantially larger than the previous models and it is wonderful. I am 66", 290 lbs and I fit in the vehicle with plenty of room. I do enjoy the interior and exterior styling and feel it gets decent gas mileage for a truck that is built to be taken off-road. If you are looking for fuel efficiency, I dont know why you would be looking for a 4WD truck. I have 8,800 miles on my Taco and it has not had any problems. The truck has plenty of power when you need it and drives like a truck, which I enjoy. If you want a "car-like" ride, I recommend a 4Runner which I own as well or a Highlander. This is a mans truck!

  • Somewhat Disappointed - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Despite the rave reviews, I was disappointed in the new 05 Tacoma. Have had Toyota trucks sine 1985 and there things to really like about this 05 version, but, they missed the mark in a few areas. My same major complaints about the 02 Tacoma still exist - mainly way too much engine noise in the cab. For some reason, Toyota stopped insulating under the hood and it makes a big difference. My 92 Toyota 4x4 was quieter than anything made since including the 05. On the plus side, maintenance of this truck is super simple. No more oil change hassling. The oil filter now sits on top of the engine within very easy reach and the oil drain plug is a snap to access w/o the need to remove anything else.

  • Great overall midsize - 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Has been a good truck so far. Bought my 2009 TRD Off Road in March of 2010 (used). Truck had 16K when I bought, now has almost 60K. This thing is great on the highway. Much quieter than my wifes CRV. After reading these reviews, looks like the 6 speed manual was a good choice. Only problem Ive had is the radio issue others have noted of turning on/off on its own. Six speed manual not the best on mpg, but tows well and off roads well.

This is my third Toyota pickup: 94 Hilux; 03 Tacoma; 05 Tacoma. My dealer is driving the 94 Hilux, a guy in town has my 03, and I am happy with my 05 Tacoma. These trucks never quit! I installed an aftermarket moon roof and the Dee Zees to offset the looks. Truck has good starting, no hesitation in acceleration, and offers a very smooth ride (I have the long bed double cab which has plenty of room).

  • Cant beat the price! - 1997 Toyota Tacoma

Purchase a preown off a dealership with 9K on it. it has been great so far.. Its equiped the 5 SP. Air, bedliner And it provided adeq. Power, For basic truckin need. A 2WD will do. Just its horrible on SNOW.. It slides all over the place. The cabin is made for Japanese people where if you are over 6 foot tall, it can be uncomfortable. OK.. I think I have wrote enough. Let me sums it up. This truck is perfect if you are. A) Under 6 foot tall, B) Local Commute, C) Dont want to spend any money on repair. D) Love to pick furniture off the street. And not good for. A)Giant, b)Offroad Demons, C) People who like FORD, CHEV, or Dodge. D) Family Trip.

What a great truck. The Handling is super and the engine is great. The V6 with 3100 pounds can really make this truck move. So far Ive clocked over 27K miles and no problems... havent visited the dealer other than oil changes.

  • Where do you put your legs? - 2003 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I bought this truck as a commuter vehicle. The test drive was great. But.. After I purchased it, and was stuck in traffic, the lack of legroom, and support in the seat quickly went from discomfort to severe pain. Im only 62" but I just dont fit. First time this has ever happened to me in any vehicle. Even my daughters Geo has more comfortable seats.
