Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

Great truck and fun to drive on and even better off roading. The dependability of this truck is the best in its class. This truck is great due to its simplicity of design. They sale more and last longer for a reason. If you want a truck with more interior gadgets then look at ford or chevy. If you want a serious offroad truck that is above the rest in dependability buy a tacoma. You will be glad you did in the short and diffenatially in the long term. This truck is funtional for off roading and on. This truck will easily go 250000 plus mile with normal care. Ask yourself how tacomas you see that have been on the road used and heavily still going with normal maintenace.

This is a perfect truck. After owning two Mazda "Rangers" and selling my beloved Jeep Cherokee I vowed to buy a full size truck until I took a spin in the 07 Tacoma. I love this truck. The V6 that gets knocked for being loud is music to my ears. The first 2000 miles on the truck were on a trip to Moab and the truck did not disappoint. It is a joy to drive on and off road. The TRD suspension is more than a cool sticker, it really works. The truck has plenty of room for the wife and two kids. The dealer even installed a 2.5" lift (sold!). This truck is rugged, solid and fast. 7,500 miles (at least 800 off road) and no problems. Did I say I like my truck?

It is night and day between the 04 and 05 Tacoma in terms of Size, Power and Comfort. The 05 Tacoma has a lot more leg and head room to accomodate larger occupants and the cabin does not have that claustrophobic feel to it. The Power was increased from 190hp in a 3.4L to 245hp in a 4.0L V6. Cruising at 70mph has the engine purring at 2500 rpm. Fuel consuption has been about 260 miles per tank. The seats have been redone to make them more comfortable. I was lucky to have been on the build team project from the drawing stage to actual production. I know first hand that the designers took into consideration a lot of the customers concerns and desires. This is the best truck Toyota has built.

my d-cab has a real truck feel, I mean I can feel every bump in the road, my 4 year old daughter said one day, this is a bumpy car daddy, the trasmission takes a while to down shift when coming up to a stop sign then giving it gas right away there is a big hesitation, the bed is to small, could be a little longer, and my shifter and 4x4 shifters wonder all over the cab, real loose........my steering wheel came crooked.......but other than those problems it has been an awesome car...........

Had this truck a short time but so far I love it. Cant wait to use it to tow old boat instead of 1980 F-150. Handles great. Rides great. Looks fantastic. Well laid out and easy to use controls, such as 4WD High. And beleive it or not I can see the clock easily and like its placement because you are not always staring at it. Love the look of this truck in TRD SR5 trim, looks like its been to a custom shop. Dealer was very pleasant to work with (Arlington Toyota Illinois).

The ride is surprisingly comfortable and it has all the power I need for passing on two lane roads. To top it off, its beautiful, inside and out. After a bit of research I find no reason to be concerned about the "plastic" bed.

This thing is sweet. Drives like a car, power in all realms of the motor, low end torque, high end horsepower. What a pleasure to drive on a daily basis. The transmission, however is a little clumsy. No need to worry about the composite bed, either. Ive thrown some pretty heavy items at with no remorse. and to true Toyota standards... took a beating and begged for more.

At 6k the LF wheel bearings, front axle and roter needed to be replaced. (never off-road or accident)Cruise control is useless-jumps gears constantly. Mileage OK at consistant 16.5-18 with a canopy. Blows occasional smoke on startup which got a little better with synthetic oil. Watch for sludge build-up on these motors. Check warranty carefully -Toyota will not look at this problem unless you are losing a quart of oil every 1k miles. Fingers crossed mine is not one of these problems. Thank god I had not installed the lift kit and voided the warranty!

This is my first truck and I love it. The truck is strong and looks nice. I have over 1200 miles and no problems so far. The ride height is high, though feels bumpy at times. Gas is good but doesn’t match advertised mileage so far. All my friends dig it, they all want to drive it, haha. Overall runs smooth, except in stop and go traffic, automatic is kinda shifty.

  • Bring the 2.4 ltr Hilux to the USA - 2003 Toyota Tacoma

I love my Toyota Tacoma, first new car to ACT like a new car. It handles really well but certain things are frustrating nuisances: The seats (Camry seats in a truck) sit very uncomfortable- already replaced fabric twice (thats NOT normal wear/tear) the foam breaks down inside. The head lights (replaced 10 times each) since 2003 10X a bit extreme isnt it! The paint (clear coat) chipping off in random places: I had an after market sunroof put in. While some paint chipping is near the sunroof, other areas are not which exclude the paint chipping blame game. I would seriously consider Toyota product: 2.4 liter turbo diesel HILUX if sold in the USA without adjusting down the MPG iow: EPA/USA.
