Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • My Little Trooper - 1999 Toyota Tacoma

This is easily the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. I have the base 4WD model with the 2.7 and few frills. I got it in 2001 with 40k miles. Im a homeowner with the more than occasional need to haul stuff around and the every day need of getting back and forth to work through the occasional snow storm. It has fulfilled all of my expectations with no major repairs until about 131k miles when the clutch went bad. Still has the factory brakes and exhaust but looks like a little body rust will need tending to shortly. Not bad considering it hasnt seen a single day inside a garage since Ive had it.

I have found not problems with the truck. when needed the 4 wheel drive is indispensible. have never been stuck and vehicle always starts. Installed an engine block heater for cold climates.

  • Decent, but not what I expected - 2007 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

After several very positive experiences with Toyota, I came up with a downer. Quite evident, the more Toyota grows, the more it has taken some quality control out of there vehicles. I have 6k miles on mine and have an off and on noise that happens at 75-80 (dealer cant diagnose cause they can only drive it up to 70), front dash rattles, passenger door rattles and has had to be towed as it wouldnt start (Thank God I purchased the extended service plan otherwise I would have been really irked paying for towing on a 3 month old truck). I wouldnt mind a littler better mileage but its not bad. Power is good for a V6 and comfort is good as well. I still like it but wish it were better.

  • THE 4 DOOR TACOMA - 2004 Toyota Tacoma

,THE 4 DOOR IS GREAT FOR 4 PEOPLE OR FOLD DOWN THE SEAT FOR STORAGE.I SEE IN THE REVIEWS THAT WE ALL DONT LIKE THE CLOCK,, I CHECK IT AT RED LIGHTS,,HAHA,,I LIKE THE WAY IT HANDLES, DESCENT ON GAS,(LIVING IN FLORIDA WITH THE A/C ON ALOT CAUSES MUCH LOWER GAS MILEAGE)LIKE THE RELIABLITY OF IT,THE ONE THING I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IS A DIGITAL TYPE COMPASS ON THE MIRROR LIKE I SEE IN SOME OTHER 25,000 DOLLAR VEHICLES. I TRAVEL ALOT WITH MY TRUCK AN MAYBE A DIGITAL COMPASS/TEMPERATURE GAUGE COMBO ON THE REAR VIEW MIRROR.ID LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE NOTICES AFTER IT RAINS, THE WATER DRIPS RIGHT INTO THE POWER WINDOWS CONTROLS

  • Revolutionary!! - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

I have to say, I am so impressed with my new truck. I have been driving BMWs for the last five years and coming out of a 40K car to a truck I was not expecting the luxury drive as well as the power and handling. WOW! What an extraordinary driving machine. I love it so much. The TRD package is worth every penny! I am absolutely impressed with it and cant wait to plan some fishing trips.

  • Another Typical Toyota - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I have owned a number of Toyota pickups in my life, and this one is typical... thats a good thing. The new 06 Tacoma base is a strong runner, lots of low end torque, and when the rpms go up, it really pulls hard. The 2.7 is so much stronger than the 2.4 liter, and the good thing is that the fuel mileage is about the same... what a deal! Interior is much more comfortable, even with the bench seat. It actually has side bolsters that hold the passengers from sliding around hard corners. The dash now has a full set of nicely appointed guages. Hey, there is no need for a bed liner since the composite bed takes care of that. Yep, another typical Toyota, high quality, great performance and price.

  • Best Truck Ever - 2005 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Ive driven a lot of trucks, and this is hands down the best truck Ive ever driven. The ride is smooth, the engine is powerful, and most important the truck is capable. Dont waste your money with Dodge and Nissan, while they are good trucks they fall way short when you caompare them to the Tacoma.

  • Meets my needs - 2004 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Bought the vehicle after much comparing between Colorado/Tacoma. I am NOT a foreign car snob--I drive what works money wise and needs wise. If Chevy had been offering 0% when I was looking it would have been a toss- up. That being said: It is more comfortable on the road then I initially imagined. The Dif lock is great--got me unstuck in mud twice already. The ground clearance is nice. I get 19mpg in town and 21mpg on the hi-way in New Mexico. I have 5800 miles on it with no problems. It is tight and fun to drive, but watch the back end. Acceleration is fine, but I am a light footed driver.

  • Fast commuting truck - 2003 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I decided the Tacoma double cab was right for my family.I got a good price from the dealer, the color I wanted and all the options we needed without any of the hassle. In the city I get 16/gal but Im sure I can wring more once its been broke in. It drives like a truck (bouncy at times) but overall not bad (without a load in the back). It scoots off the line and pulls nicely up steep grades and stops undramatically. Driven in heavy rain it has no problems even with a stiff cross wind or on a steep grade. The A/C cools fast and doesnt bog the engine. The stereo is nice with a cassette and/or CD design and the back seats tilt for extra storage which is an additional nice feature.
