Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.
Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

By strauchfx - November 27 - 6:39 amI recently traded my tacoma, so now I feel I can give an unbiased review. I also own a Toyota Camry and after owning the Tacoma and talking to Toyota customer service I swore to myself I wouldnt buy another EVER. The first thing that went wrong.. a HIGH pitch whistling noise from the front end, Toyota could diagnose the problem, customer service told me "your truck was designed that way".. I figured it out finally, there was a TSB out on the internet for a weak seal on the windshield. Good job Toyota for the help. Next.. The temp/compass thing broke, the HVAC Fan switch broke, only HIGH or nothing. Rear end feel like it has resistance. Strange clunks and bangs. Continued below..

By Mark - November 25 - 3:13 amI am having an issue with steering wheel vibration between 50 and 70 mph and it started that way off the lot (7 miles). Tires were replaced and alignment completed and still having vibrations. So far everything else working ok and mpg is 20 which is better than my other truck was.

Overall Great, Dependable and Fun - 1996 Toyota Tacoma
By Broeheem - November 18 - 4:20 amI bought this truck about a year ago, and am pretty happy with it. The 3.4 has more than enough gusto for me, the trans feels solid, and the suspension is a perfect balance of smooth ride and tight handling. SR5 has nearly all the toys standard and the factory option packages take care of the rest. I was determined to find one with all the options that you could get (except auto - would never own an auto). Exterior is the last decent-looking one before the headlights got massive, interior is not as sweet as the last model (and that hideous exploding steering pillow had to go immediately), but at least Toyota figured out that the speakers ought to NOT be pointing at the floor.

Great Truck! - 2007 Toyota Tacoma
By Brian - November 16 - 1:13 amThis truck replaced a 1996 Ranger, and the difference between the two was like night and day. Very comfortable, well laid out interior, solid build (rattle free), and great looking - gets lots of admiring stares. I have so far driven this truck about 7800 miles and have no complaints about its ride or reliability. So far, I am getting about 18 mpg city and 22 hwy.

Very Nice truck - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I love the looks mostly of the vehicle, but the feel and drive of the truck is like no other. Handles extremely well, has a smooth almost car like ride, but still lets you know you are driving a TRUCK. Cant wait to try the 4x4 out.

Truck Perfection - 2000 Toyota Tacoma
By riz - November 13 - 3:10 pmThis truck was by far the best automobile I ever had. The only time I had it in the garage was when I got my oil changed. No problems whatsoever and I beat the heck out of it. I went off roading somewhat often and drove through 20" snowstorms with ease. Gas mileage was not great, but it is a 4X4 truck. I reccomend this truck to anyone. It fits three with ease, and it good for long trips. Never should have traded it in an my mustang.

By TrackerDan - November 10 - 10:00 amThis trucks only 300 miles old; but it is a pleasure to drive, quiet, and well prepared to do business. The 3.4 V6 will be running like new long after it is paid off. A big improvent in the automatic transmission. Cabin noise is whisper quiet. You will want the limited package for sure. A big difference in the seating comfort with the limited upgrade. The stereo is nice. The truck halls you know what. Im saving up for the turbocharger.

By p8ryot - November 9 - 2:41 amI bought my 2000 Tacoma in 03 with 32K miles on it. It brought instant satisfaction from bumper to bumper. Ive never had a vehicle that I found so fun to drive in city and highway alike. I now have about 175K miles. I had the water pump replaced 2 years back and a few bearings too, but otherwise its been maintenance free. Now its time to pass it onto my driving age son and I will buy a newer Tacoma very soon. Its been a problem free, well built, fun to drive and fairly good mpg. I get around 320miles per tank in 2WD and about 290 in 4 WD. Im gonna miss her but its comforting knowing my son will be off to college in a reliable and fun truck.
