Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • My Tacoma - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

I bought the standard, no accessories. I am very pleased overall. Im a 50 year old woman and live in the city. My Tacoma has a comfortable ride, its quiet, lots of get up and go and it feels very solid. By that I mean the doors are heavy and it doesnt get blown aroung when semis go by. Its also comfortable driving a good distance. My husband and I are renovating our old house and make frequent trips to the dump. The bed liner with the adjustable strap hooks work great for securing the load.

This is the 2nd toyota truck Ive bought. Mechanicals in this truck are far better than my 1988, but interior materials are too cheap. Driver arm rest falling apart, various plastic parts are breaking. Driver seat is built for 58" and Im 62".

My Toyota has been great. I purchased it new. It goes to the dealer for regular maintenance, it has been to the dealer once for a CHECK ENGINE light, which apparently was my fault for adding a K&N air filter, which the dealer suggested I remove. I did, no trouble since. It has 58k miles on it, still runs and looks like the day I bought it.I avg. 22/29 mpg.

Never thought Id buy a foreign vehicle, but after owning my Tacoma SR5 4wdEXCAB, dont think Ill owe anything diffrent...Infact so impressed with build quality bought my wife Toyota 4 Runner which is 2 years older but has the same 3.4 V6 and quality and reliabity are unsurpassed...

It is the first vehicle I ever bought new and it was well worth it. The car I drove before it was a Toyota Echo, so fuel economy is worse, but comfort is well worth it. It was a good buy, and I would recommend it to anyone.

  • Great Buy... - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

This is my 4th Toyota, and 2nd Toyota truck. The ride is comfortable like an F150, but with better build quality. Rides nice & high, similar to a medium to full size truck. Excellent interior design and ergo. Bold exterior looks. The auto trans searches for gears at low speeds (not too noticeable), but the gas mileage has been predictable - 20mpg combined city/hwy. Plenty of power in the 236hp V6. Lots of leg room in the front & not bad in the back. Lots of great standard features on the SR5 pckg. Overall, this truck is worth the money... and I expect the same great quality that Ive gotten in the past from my other Toyotas. Im a satisfied buyer!

  • An Honest Review - 2007 Toyota Tacoma

First, I am a truck guy, never have owned a car. I am 51 years old. My first truck was a 1951 GMC 1/2 ton. Since then I have owned Chevys, Dodges, Internationals, Jeeps and Fords. I have close to a million road miles so I know trucks. This is my first Toyota. I love this truck. I test drove all the others, and I mean all, and this truck is by far the best built, best designed, and best performing. I have 1700 miles on it and for combination driving hwy/city I am getting 24 mpg. Strict hwy driving up 6 & 7% grades from Grand Junction to Denver over the Rocky Mountains and Contenental Divide at 75 mph I got 23.5 mpg. Havent towed the 4 horse trailer yet, but am sure it will perform.

  • what a great 1st truck! - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

I am very impressed. I drive a 2005 Mercedes 320 CLK Cabriolet for my everyday driver, but this truck is becoming my favorite ride! The wife & I "fight" over who will drive it to work. We got the speedway blue, with the TRD offroad upgrade, and get compliments wherever we go. Love the Toyota quality & reliability. I expect this truck to last us for many years.

  • Very well built truck! - 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Bought it used in Jan 07 when we were in the middle of our 9 blizzards this year! The truck has been awesome, seems to go almost anywhere. This is my 2nd Toyota, my first was an 85 4x4 truck I bought new in 85. Toyotas are popular around here and for good reason: Theyre tough, reliable and very well made. MPG has been better than the EPA estimate: I get 18.5 in the city and 22-23 on the the highway. V6 is not extremely powerful but it gets the job done. Manual tranny is fun to drive and gives decent economy as well.
