This is the second Tacoma that Ive owned. Ive never been brand partial until my first Tacoma purchase. Its the only truck Ill have now. Needed something small enough for just myself commuting to/from work, but also something I could take the family out in as well. Double cab fits the bill perfectly. 18-24 MPG is decent for a 4X4 truck. Stylish looks are sporty, ride is quiet and comfortable as compared to my 02. Had an unfortunate accident in the 02 when a driver pulled out in front of me causing a serious crash. Truck held up well and recd only minor damage as opposed to the Chevy Malibu that got what it deserved! Toyota makes a solid truck!

  • Great Small Truck! - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I owned a 2001 Sonoma years before buying this truck. There is no comparison. This truck feels like it has a V6 (only a 2.7L 4 cyl) and has an awesome ride while not being too harsh. What takes the cake is the great gas mileage. I didnt buy this truck for mileage, but Im averaging 25 mpg with about 40%/60% city/highway driving. Not to shabby. The composite bed is nice, Im sure it saves a few pounds off of the weight. I was bummed that it doesnt come with a tow package, but I did buy the OE hitch system for it. The man. trans is awesome, even when pulling a load. Keep your mud flaps on, the paint chips easily along the rockers; I found out the hard way.

This is my 5th Toyota, and my 2nd Toyota Truck. There is no comparison in the engine power, noise level, fit and finish, and interior comfort among trucks this size. It is MUCH larger than the old Tacoma, and feels like a 4-runner with a bed tacked on. Gets up and goes. I Love it.

  • I got what I bought - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

This truck "is what it is"; an economical version of a small truck, very handy and economical around the suburbs and city driving. Principal reason for my buying this truck is that Im sick and tired of loosing $10,000+ a year in owing a Ford or Dodge $30,000 vehicle when purchased new. I bought this truck for a little over $16K; it gets 22 to 26 mpg; it is decidedably uncomfortable; its 2.7litter engine performance is acceptable, and one year after my purchase, Ive probably lost between $3 and $4,000, based on its current resale value. Do I wish I had a big truck with 4-wheel drive? Sure; but its a function of whether I want the cash in my pocket, or in the dealers pocket.

  • Compare to 2004 - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Traded my 2004 TRD 4WD for this truck. Feel like completely different trucks. 06 feels/drives much heavier (it is). Despite increase in HP, doesnt feel any faster. Very comfortable, mileage is same on highway as 04 (20-22mpg) worse in city (16mpg or less!) which is very disappointing. Weight and size may mean that it doesnt off-road as well as 04, which was extremely capable. Plastic molding on wheel wells looks like it could damage more easily than on 04. Over-all I feel like they made big improvements on comfort and style but might have taken short cuts on durability. Verdict is still out. If you have an older Tacoma, think hard before trading on this one. its not a compact anymore!

This truck drives like a sports car, yet has the capabilities of a large truck. Moving down the freeway, if I only want silence I can shut off the cd/radio, outside road noise is minimal at best. Load it up with bed full of dirt and still has get up and go, and with the locking dif no issues going through the soft stuff. I havent had any issues squeezing into parking places where ever I go, only problem so far has been at the gas pump where I spend more time there than I want talking with everbody about the truck.

  • Beware of The Clunky , Rusty 2005-2011 Tacoma ! - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

While the engine is strong and the truck seems to hold up , the issues with cracking leaf springs and rusty frames makes me tell people to be very careful . My trucks leaf springs died at 67k miles and at the time Toyota had not recalled the nearly 700,000 tacomas ... Although I fixed it I am not getting reimbursement from Toyolet ,and they continue to cheat me and thousands of other customers . Google "Toyota rusty frames " or " Tacoma leaf springs failure " .. While the trucks look butch they are weak and the customer service is an abomination ... Beware of the last generation Junk Tacomas from Toyolet , not worth the money or the hassles .. Buy a real truck .

I have been through many vehicles and nothing compares to the Tacoma, the quality is great and is good on gas for a truck. It also has a car like ride. The rust proof deposit bed is a really nice feature. I highly recommend the Tacoma.

  • 06 Tacoma, three years in. - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Bought my 2006 Black, 4WD, Short-bed TRD, used in June of 2007. It had 20K miles on it, and it is sitting at just over 60K miles now (April 2010). Wanted a smaller truck that was 4WD with four doors and I was willing to sacrifice power, fun, and space. So far, the space is the only sacrifice. The bed is pretty small when hauling things, but I knew that going into the deal. For the trucks size and weight, the power is outstanding. I pulled a Chevy 1500 out of a ditch with ease of course, I was still on asphalt and had good traction. Regardless, this was my first Toyota truck and I will own it until the wheels fall off! Great little truck, and still get compliments all the time.

  • Love/Hate relationship - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I have only owned Toyotas and I loved my last two Tacoma trucks so much I went for the new 2006. I loved the room of a four door and I have a 66 son who needed to fit into it with his size 18 shoe. The long bed was a must because I ride bikes and wanted to throw them in the back. I wanted a navigation system and bluetooth but they were not avaliable. The hate part... at almost $5 a gallon, I put in $85 at every fill up! It is killing me! The gas mileage is the worst, 340 miles for every $85 and rising. Toyota needs to make a fuel efficent truck soon! Please!
