Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • Why so different? - 2010 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I have 2 2010 Tacoma 4x4s one is a 4 door sr5 and the other is an access cab with the trd package. The 4 door is very quiet and is a great truck, My truck with the trd package has so much road noise that I cant use a blue tooth devise. We bought the 4 door first brand new and we bought the trd used with 8,000 miles on it, I cant believe the difference in these to trucks for basically being the same vehicle, I am not happy with the trd truck although it runs good and no issues mechanically, just way to much road noise.

  • My first, but not my last Toyota - 2009 Toyota Tacoma

I have owned my truck for 1 week and I couldnt be happier. I traded in a 2006 Pathfinder LE for the Tacoma and it was the best decision I have ever made. The Nissan was not put together well and had rattles everywhere as well as a problem in the electrical system. The Tacoma seems to be built much tighter and better and has a great ride. It tows my boat without even knowing it it there. There is a slight rattle at 1100rpm in the passenger door but the dealership is going to take care if that quickly when I take it in for service. I would HIGHLY recommend this vehicle for anyone looking for a truck. It is simply put, A GREAT TRUCK!

  • 04 Tacoma displeasure - 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Bought new 2004 Tacoma 4 x 2 automatic 2.4 cyl SR5 ext. cab Very unhappy, poor power, 2 pc. drive shaft clunks when you accelerate hard, dealer service department, nothing we can do. rated at 21-26 mpg. best I have gotten is 21 even on highway. If a/c is on, loose speed going up a incline, do to poor power. Dont waste your time. It wont be in my garage long!!!

  • One of best vehicles ever made. Really. - 1995 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

After 170,000 miles of 4WD mountain trails (hard core kayaker and climber), highway trips, towing, hauling, being lent to friends, pulling stuff heavier than rated capability, etc., this truck runs like it did when I bought it new 12 years ago. Its been a second vehicle for years now, and I often meet guys who have 400,000+ miles on these trucks. Ive never had an iota of trouble with this truck (except for ripping the antenna off in a car wash). This is a truck that will go 500,000 miles, easy. Plus, its still quick and fast (110 mph). Still looks relatively good. Wouldnt ever sell it. If you were lucky enough to buy one of these, dont ever sell it.

  • Power and Style Combined - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Top of the line styling, best in class! The truck presents like a truck while at the same time scores as a top-shelf SUV from the inside out. The long bed is just that, long on functionality and big on capability. This class, size and design of truck ensures heads turn as you drive by and no doubt fills driver and passengers with pride.

  • Loyal Tacoma Owner - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

This is the second Tacoma that Ive owned. Ive never been brand partial until my first Tacoma purchase. Its the only truck Ill have now. Needed something small enough for just myself commuting to/from work, but also something I could take the family out in as well. Double cab fits the bill perfectly. 18-24 MPG is decent for a 4X4 truck. Stylish looks are sporty, ride is quiet and comfortable as compared to my 02. Had an unfortunate accident in the 02 when a driver pulled out in front of me causing a serious crash. Truck held up well and recd only minor damage as opposed to the Chevy Malibu that got what it deserved! Toyota makes a solid truck!

  • 287 K and still strong - 1998 Toyota Tacoma

Why did they bother with the later tacomas? This one gets heavy use and I can run it with rebuilds and regular maintenance for much less than a new tacoma. Im a forester and drive 75 to 100 miles to where it goes off the pavement for the day. Its had two transmissions (one bad from the rebuilder) , new heads from the bad local gas, three new radiators from the log trucks and gravel hacks. Biggest problem now is its become hard to get real toyota parts. MPG still 23. Biggest advantage is the size. It fits into grown over logging roads that a full sized PU wont - however, it has become difficult to locate in parking lots with all the oversized vehicles.

  • Never wanted a truck - 2004 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I personally never wanted a truck. I took this vehicle for a test drive (my wife said it was a "cute" truck) in the parking lot of a closed down supermarket - 1.5 feet of snow with 4 foot drifts (TRD package). It walked through it with ease, so I bought it and added a spray in bed liner and cover. Ive taken it off-road, on highway trips and towed many different trailers. Its done everything Ive asked of it. With the TRD package, the ride is a little stiff until you throw 500lbs in the bed. After buying it, Im not sure how we got along without it.

  • 1998 Tacoma SR5 V6 4x4 - 1998 Toyota Tacoma

I really like it. I do with the interior was more "exciting" as its really blah. And the cup holders are in wierd positions. Strong V6. Ive towed and hauled with it and experience was great.

  • Best mid-size truck available - 2007 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I replaced my 12 yr old Toyota pickup with an 07 Tacoma double cab TRD Sport longbed. Nothing wrong with my old truck, just wanted something bigger and with more options/power. Only had it a month but I can tell I will be driving for many years. Decent power, smooth ride. Only problem I had was fitting it in my garage.
