Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

I cannot believe I have not turned to Toyota before now. For some reason Toyota has gotten it right. I feel like the driver comes first in design, not the mechanic. This is a fun truck. I dont feel like Im trying to be the "Dad" type of guy. Just a young family man being smart about fuel economy and enjoying the sporty drive. Its all good to me!

I purchased this truck last summer and have loved my decision to do so ever since. I have the TRD sport package which gives the truck a mean, and manly look. The truck is loaded with power and will basically do anything you ask of it. Features are great and there are several different styles to suit your personal needs. These trucks are built to last and you just cannot wear these babies out. I previously owned a 2001 Tacoma and the increase in size, durability and power is amazing. Its almost like Toyota created a completely different model and assigned the name Tacoma to it. Again, if youre contemplating buying this truck, debate no longer. This is sure to be the truck for you!

When I started looking for a Toyota Tacoma, I was interested in a used vehicle. After seeing the price of the used Tacomas, I decided to go with new. I now understand why these trucks hold thier value so much. The quality is great. Even the used ones I test drove with 35-50k miles on them felt tight and solid. My truck is equipped with the inline 4 2.7l engine, and it has plenty of grunt for my use. I have been off-road with it many times and it performs flawlessly. I was impressed to see that the owners manual specifically states that "This truck is designed for off-road use." I will be sticking with Toyota for some years to come.

  • Ive always been a car guy - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Ive been a car guy all my life. Never had much interest in a truck. Im convinced that some car guys at Toyota got together and decided to make a truck for car guys. Ive never had as many compliments about any car Ive owned, including a 91 Vette. I like the ride and feel of the truck and the handling is off the charts for a factory truck with a warranty. I average about 22-24 mpg and really enjoy my time behind the wheel. Granted, its not an off road machine, but I dont need it to, either. In a nutshell, I enjoy leaving behind full size V8 trucks that cost thousands more, and even leaving behind V6 Mustangs and Camaros on the mountain roads around my home. Thanks Toyota!

  • Engine is worn out - 1996 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I bought this truck, have done front rotors, painted the truck and performed some routine maintenance. I am a mechanic by trade and expected this vehicle to hit 500,000 miles because of the reputation of Toyotas. I got it at 198,000 miles and changed some of the engine sensors, plugs wires and ignition coil trying to fix a power issue. Finally I found the engine is simply worn out, my compression is below the minium specification on two cylinders. The piston rings are worn out and the valves are worn as well. I have tried all kinds of chemicals including Zado. It runs well and crainks a bit long when cold but does run and is not noisy mechanically. Chemicals did help my transmission.

Went from a 11 year old F-150 super crew to 2017 Tacoma DC Long bed, because I wanted the sporty looking Tacoma, with a functional bed size.
