Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

The new 3.5 liter engine does not have great acceleration unless you really hit the pedal. The new engine has more mid-range power, presumably it helps for highway mileage. Great new tech with phone charging pad and the always awesome crawl control. It seemed to get good gas mileage driving around town, better than any full size for sure.

This is my first Toyota. Had a lifted 98 Chevy before this. I have had to take the car in to have an exhaust seal replaced. Overall I loved my Chevy better! I felt safe in it. I feel like I and in an aluminum can when it is storming outside. Why are so many dealers going overkill on the fenders? Im a women and we like trucks too!I have wanted to sell this truck for a while but hate to lose so much money. Now with Toyota NOT really knowing what is wrong with their vehicles, i want to sell it even more.

  • So many problems - 2004 Toyota Tacoma

I thought the vehicle (because it was built by the Japanesse) would be of high quality. Complete junk, exterior trim is already peeling off, transmission (torque convertor?) struggles when excelerating and decelerating on the highway with an automatic and if I hear a mechanic at the dealer say "thats a tacoma for ya" one more time Ill smack him. Buyer Beware on this type of engine, all the problems have been engine and exterior, nothing else seems to be wrong. Also getting a pretty bad rattle at 25K and its leaking coolant, back to the dealer again.

This is a great truck, I bought it used with 169,986 miles on it and it currently has 179,090 miles on it. I have the aluminum wheels with 30 inch. tires. The only thing I wish I had was the locking rear differental but I didnt buy it new or I wouldve opt for that. Since Ive had it the only thing needed to be replaced was the cat. converter (which all vehicles need eventually) and a clutch (which replaced the original from factory @ 175,000 miles). This truck is a great truck for on and off roading. You cant go wrong with a Toyota.

  • Toyota 2 Dr Access Cab 4x4 - 2010 Toyota Tacoma

This is my 1st truck and I bought it because of the reputation. I shouldve gotten more features in the truck like remote mirrors, cruise etc. because once you spend that kind of money you feel like you should have more comfort and luxuries. Im a little disappointed on the gas mileage so far and how toyota "cheaped out" on some thing like the 4 wheel drive switch doesnt illuminate in the dark so you have to put the light on to locate it or the 1 CD player, seems like everyone else gives a better stereo system these days and at least cruise control?? Seems like they just give the "basics" and make you pay through the nose for any additional features.

Overall great truck. First new truck I have purchased and so far, no major disappointments. Ride gets a little "squirrely" when driving on grooved concrete highway, doesnt seem to stay on track. Ride gets bouncy when empty, but not sure what happens when it is loaded. So far, Ive only driven it empty. My old truck was a full-size crew cab, and this is a welcome change when buying fuel. So far, getting around 21 mpg, and havent used cruise control yet. Im hoping to improve to about 23 mpg. Plenty of power, but I havent really tested it yet (still in break in). Im getting used to the shift configuration, and should have it down soon, but it is not what Im familiar with.

  • Best truck ever! - 2011 Toyota Tacoma

I have been shopping around for a new truck for over a year now. I have test drove and researched every single one and this is by far the best truck out there. I was initially looking for a full size for my 4 kids but with the double cab, their carseats fit with ease. The interior is very nice and the seats are the most comfortable I have ever sat in. If you are going to get it I would highly recommended the TRD Sport package, because it handles like no other. As far as reliability, I cant speak on that for this one (2011), but I did have a 2000 Tacoma for 12 years and it was bullet proof, nothing but normal maintenance until the 125,000 mile spot.

  • Toyota Needs to be more customer oriented - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

The biggest problem with this vehicle is the lack of power seats. The manual seats do not adjust up or down so many will have to buy a cushion to see over the elevated hood. Acceleration is mediocre and needs performance enhancers. Not real agile on the road compared to the 2010 Nissan Frontier that I regretfully traded in.

  • Toyota, best truck ever - 2005 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

My Toyota Tacoma is the best truck I have ever owned. I have had many bad experiences with Chevys and Fords in the past so, I went with Toyota. This truck is by far better than any midsize truck out there. It has tons of power and my favorite a six speed manual transmission. Off road there is no comparison. This truck will take any mid or full size truck on any trail. Even the new jeeps could not keep up with this bad boy. Like my older Toyota pickup, I plan on breaking 300,000 miles with out breaking a thing, unlike my worthless chevy silverado that kicked the bucket at 140,000 . These new Tacomas are sure to live up to Toyotas long lasting reputation.
