Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

Truck is awesome. I had a sonoma before this, and believe me, the reliability on toyotas and performance is much better. Took truck on a 3k miles road trip and ran perfect the whole way. Bucket seats provide much comfort. Overall great truck

Plenty of power to pull my 17 foot boat in and out of the water. Big enough to haul and tow what I need and small enough to park anywhere and fit into my garage. It has the feel of a much larger truck and the quality and reputation of Toyota were big selling points for this purchase of my first Toyota.

I cant believe people still consider the Tacoma a "small" truck. This thing grew massively on its last re-design. It is not the same Toyota truck I learned to drive on in 1986. I am a heavyweight myself, and find the truck very accommodating. The interior looks good, great exterior styling, and the bed with all of its features is the best design out there. The economy of the engine is great too.

I waited nearly two months to have the truck built with the 6speed manual...well worth the wait! Good power, good room inside, good storage behind and under rear seats. Rides very smooth. 6 speed is fun to drive.

I bought this truck brand new with 18 miles on the odometer. It now has over 45,000 miles and I still love it. Decent gas mileage for a truck, plenty of power, great offroad capability with the 4WD model, and awesome styling. The only gripe I have is why Toyota didnt include a locking tailgate. Other than that I love the Tacoma, and I get lots of compliments on it too. Will definitely buy another Toyota in the future.

I really wanted to like this truck. Styling is fine, interior is a little cramped, especially the back seats. Front seats are flat. No glovebox light and no power drivers seat in the Limited. Trans takes a long time to learn and shift well. Mileage is just OK for this fancy new engine. Quiet enough inside. Tech inside is great. Great ground clearance and handles snow and fire roads perfectly. If it actually let me drive on the freeway for any distance without numbing my hands, I could live with the little things and would love the truck. I traded a 10 FJC in for this, as my wife and I wanted a truck and we love the reliability of our previous 5 Toyotas. Big mistake...wish we still had the FJC. Between 2100-2400 RPMs, the steering wheel has a resonating buzz in it that puts my hands and lower arms to sleep (never had this happen, even on any of my Harleys). This happens to correspond to highway and freeway speeds in 5th and 6th gears of the new automatic trans. Took it in and, after the dealer checked it (acknowledging the buzziness, BTW), left it for a day with Toyota Engineers from Denver. The response? The buzziness was normal for this truck and "the steering functions as designed". Huh? Found several threads on different forums where others are having this issue, some worse than others. People report that when they report it to Toyota Corporate, they are told that "we havent heard of this issue with anyone else". Huh? Dealer says that unless Toyota comes out with a fix, Im stuck. As it is, I can only drive around town and cant stand any trips of more than a few miles. I didnt spend $40k for a local hauler. This will be traded as soon as I decide between the upcoming redesigned Honda Ridgeline or the 17 GMC Canyon Denali, no matter the financial hit I take. Probably the last Toyota I ever own...their Customer Service and quality has tanked. I gave it two stars because it has a lot of potential. For now, Id stay away until they can figure this out...or take yours for a long test drive in manual mode and make sure that the buzziness isnt there (although some posters are saying they have none, then it shows up with a vengeance, later.

Picked up my new Tacoma this week and its quite a truck. Loads of standard equipment. Love the extra doors on the access cab. Terrific factory stereo. Smooooth transmission. Plenty of power for my needs. Sold my old Tacoma SR-5 with 170K trouble free miles to get the new one. It took all of 3 hrs. from the time I placed the ad until the cash was in hand. If this new truck works out as well as the old one, Ill be a happy camper. Dont know why youd consider any other small truck.

  • Big Surprise - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I bought this truck out of necessity. My old truck had broken down. I have been very happy and surprised with the Tacoma. I am getting 20 mpg with the A/C on and hauling as much as 1100-1500 lbs. of payload. At first it was a truck I needed not wanted, but I like it more everyday.

Excellent Toyota Quality. My truck has over 95k miles on it and has never seen the shop. I am still on the original clutch.

I use this truck for my gardening business and it has never failed.
