Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • Best Small Pick-Up on the Market - 2002 Toyota Tacoma

I test drove Fords, Mazdas Nissans, & Dodge. I kept coming back to the Toyota. Best value for the money. Most dependable and reliable small pick on the market. You get what you pay for.

  • Axle Wrap - 2002 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I purchased my truck 2002 dbl cab 4x4 with a TRD suspension package although axle wrap is a real problem. Axle wrap is caused by soft leaf springs distorting while braking and or accelerating causing the drive line to bind, thump and bump. It has been to the dealer twice without long term correction. A crack service tech from Toyota is supposed to work on the axle wrap problem when he is in town. It is my hope that this problem can and will be resolved soon. I have never had a Toyota or any other car with this type of problem.

  • STALL OUT WHILE DRIVING!!! - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

This is my 5th Toyota and 3rd TRD off road 4x4. It has stalled out on me 4 times ( once making a left turn and almost got hit) Toyota has had if for a total of 6 weeks of my 10 months of ownership. The last time it was in for 4.5 weeks so the Toyota engineers could look at it and the answer was they tightened some loose connections. I am not feeling real confident with this truck or the Toyota company. Soon as it is lemoned I am most likely buying a Chevy Colorado, only because of Toyota customer service

Very, very poor gas milege for a 4 cylinder engine. Cannot make 20 miles to the gallon. Rides a little rough for a 4 X 2 vehicle.

  • Fantastic! - 2002 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

This truck was my first car i had a 2002 Tacoma TRD off-road limited and it ran with 258,000 miles on it until i rolled it into a ditch, and even after the accident the cab stayed intact, i landed upside down and all that affected the cab was the center of the windshield and the sunroof bent in a few inches. Would not own any other truck!

  • great buy - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Have put 3500 miles on it in 3 months. Loved every mile so far!! Fun to drive. Very comfortable seats both short and long drives. Getting 18 in city and 22 on highway. I have the lighted running boards that light both the step and under the truck. It sits pretty high so would recommend the running boards for the average size person.

  • 2005 Tacoma 4X4, Dbl Cab, Auto - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

So far great truck. Three tanks of fuel, ave 19MPG with 1/3 city and 2/3 highway. Size is perfect, and seems to have plenty of power for my towing needs. Auto transmition is suprisingly smooth. Some engine noise, but nothing like the small block Chevys Im used to! Dont pay MSRP, theres a dealer somewhere thatll sell them at invoice plus a few hundred bucks.

  • Toyota Tacoma Double Cab PreRunner - 2004 Toyota Tacoma

I have had the truck for about two months now and I love it. The quality and reliability greatly outweigh any negatives. This is the second Toyota in the family (2002 Sequoia) and I have never owned any car or truck that has been better made or has been as reliable.

  • Excellent product - 1999 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

My 99 Tacoma has served me well over 39 months that Ive owned it. One problem I had (fixed under warranty)was the airbag sensor went bad but it was replaced. I intend to keep this truck until it rolls over and dies.

  • #1 Light Truck on the Road - 1999 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I have owned the truck for 6 months and I havent had any problems. I noticed a slight jerk when braking; like I was hit in the rear, and found out that it was the slip joint on the drive shaft. Those experiencing a similiar problem should grease the slip joint on the drive shaft. I wish it had slightly better gas mileage, but I did not buy the truck for fuel efficiency, and niether should a prospective buyer. I am 66 and the interior leg room is great! I would reccommend Toyota over any other vehicle, I will never buy anything other than a Toyota or Lexus now. Toyota definately puts out a quality product that holds its resale value!
