Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

What a great truck. Just recently traded in my 2002 Two-Door Tacoma for a 2004 Double Cab V6. Definately a great truck.. looks, styling, effcient engine... it has it all! I find myself wanting a second one even though I already have one!

This is my second small Yota pickup and it proves again that you cant go wrong in the reliability department with a Toyota. Needs a new clutch at 145K miles but other than brakes that is the only non routine maintainence I can remember in 12 years of ownership. One tune up and 2 brake jobs and 1 clutch in 12 years, cant beat that. It has never left me stranded.

  • Big improvement over previous Tacos - 2005 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

This is a HUGE improvement over the earlier Tacos that were much smaller and had little wiggle room inside. Now Toyota has a real mid-size truck!! Incredible power that is just too tempting to ignore - will smoke most of em off the line. Beautiful styling inside and out, with some fine tuning over the years these will be a perfect truck!

  • Old Tacoma vs new Tacoma - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I have been driving a 2005 Tacoma for ten years while waiting for an update, so I went out to test drive a new 2016 as soon as they came out with the intention of buying one since I love my old Tacoma. My initial reaction to test driving the new Tacoma was extreme disappointment. My old 2005 has been one of the best vehicles I have ever owned but I was looking forward to more power (the 2005 is a 4-cylinder manual) and better gas mileage. The first thing I noticed was that my head was touching the cab roof in the TRD model I test drove which had a sunroof (I am 62" but never had this problem in my old Tacoma). I checked some of the others on the lot and apparently those equipped with a sun-roof have a lower ceiling that I could not live with but the others without sunroof were ok. The second thing I noticed was lack of power with the new v6/new automatic transmission and this is compared to the old 4-cylinder with a manual transmission not vs the old v6 so twice as bad. One thing I have long lamented is how noisy the cab of the old Tacomas are, so this was an improvement but not as much as expected from all the hype. I am an IT tech, but dont care about lots of technology in my vehicle as I see it as more stuff that can break so all the new tech in the new Tacoma does not do anything for me. I would rather not be scrolling through menus while trying to drive. I will leave the tech to someone else to review. The interior surprised me as well and not in a good way. You can the dash in any color you want as long as it is black. The dark gray dash in my old truck does not show dust, but solid black in the new one is hopeless. I guess they dont expect people to use these outside the city? Other than that, the interior is seems pretty nice. I did not think the seats were an improvement but maybe they just needed breaking in? The exterior actually seemed nicer in person than it had in pictures as I was not initially thrilled with the new look in photos. Is it just me, or did they raise the hood making it harder to see? It definitely seemed like the field of vision shrunk.

  • Nothing Less Than Amazing. - 1996 Toyota Tacoma

I love this truck. I wanted it since my parents brought it home that night, after spending all day at multiple dealerships. After convincing my parents that if they wouldnt sell it to me I would just go and buy an identical one, they finally sold it to me for $5K. Its now 12 years old and still running strong with absolutely no problems. The muffler rusted itself a 3" gash in it, but Im not at all upset. I like the sound, which kind of burbles like a Subaru Impreza, but I might buy a Cherry Bomb muffler, then a K&N FIPK Intake. Overall, the truck is flawless and I have no plans on selling it. If something breaks, Ill replace it, but there is no way Id sell this truck without a fight.

  • Dont buy unless you want junk - 2010 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Ive owned this truck since 12/09 and have to say this is the absolute WORST new vehicle Ive ever owned. This truck has weak leaf springs, "hunting" transmissions, steering problems on loose gravel, noisy ac blower motors, rust on frames/bumpers of brand new trucks... I could go on, but you get the picture. This is actually the 4th Toyota Ive owned and I couldnt be more disappointed. My brand new (9 mth old) truck has each of these problems and Toyota refuses to fix any of them with the exception of the leaf springs. Toyota quality is a thing of the past, and if I can give you any advice at all, it would be to look elsewhere for your truck. Dont take the chance. Youve been warned!

  • New options at a comfort cost - 2009 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Ok, Im disappointed. It appears as though the comfort of the rear seats has been compromised because of the extra features that they had to come up with because of the competition. Am I the only one who has seen a change between 2008 to 2009?? Yes 2009 has newer features, finally side airbags! But, if you seat in the rear on the 2008 and then seat in the rear of a 2009 you will be shocked. I guess those new features need to be offset by compromising on the comfort? Anyone else seeing this?
