Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

It is the best vehicle I have ever had! Its V6 is powerful, pulling my 8 trailer & ATV,no problem. The bed is short(ATV wont fit) but That is what made it appealing. Lots of rear leg room (more than our Rav4). Has gone anywhere that I have attempted. Winter driving is great in 4WD, but slides alot in 2WD. Couldnt get enough sandbags for 2WD. This is the only vehicle that Ive ever had for 2 years... and am still in love with! Oh yeah... the one thing that has been a problem; The front end is out of alignment already. Possibly due to the off-road driving that it has seen, but possibly due to Missouris CRAP they give us, and call a highway system.

This vehicle is pretty well built, but I am about to take it back for the second power steering pump. I experienced the same clutch squeak that the other guy did, and rattles are starting to develop. The biggest annoyance is the road noise that eminates into the cab through the bare back wall of the cab. How much more could it have cost to "finish" the back wall of the cab? Toyota charges a premium price for what is supposed to be a premium product I expected that and was dissapointed. I would still buy another Toyota however.

Time for a new truck. I wanted a reliable, quality pickup with some style that I didnt need a second mortgage to buy. Where to go? Duh... Toyota, of course! The Tacoma is a true mid size pickup, with loads of style and way high on the fun factor. Im 62" and its perfect for me. In fact, its really nice having a smaller truck without hitting my head on the roof. Ive heard some complain about the suspension. Its the nicest of any truck Ive owned. Tight and true. The interior is attractive and functional, without being expensively gawdy.

  • Terrible Seats! - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Went to the Toyota Dealership to purchase a Tacoma. Love the looks of the redesign and was ready to but. Test drive lasted 30 seconds. Drivers sea is extremely uncomfortable. Cant imagine sitting in it for more than 15 minutes without experiencing significant back and leg pain. Im 62" 220 lbs. The seat cushion is stationary and does not ratchet up or tilt back. Also the thigh support is none existent! Shame.

I bought this truck as a demo with 8K miles. I now have 82K plus in about two years and it is still ticking strong. I do find the seats uncomfortable for long road trips, but every other part of interior design and layout is perfect. Storage is excellent. I had the rear leaf TSB performed to replace the original springs. The new 4 leaf springs handle weight much better than stock. I use Michelin LTX AT tires. This truck rides and drives like a car! It is sporty, powerful, nimble. It is also easy to maneuver in parking lots/garages and around town. Service has been minimum/standard and I have had no warranty issues. The transmission seems to seek gears esp. around 40 mph.

There is a reflection from the 3 sliver rings, and the radio that reflect off the windshield, weather it’s cloudy or sunshine, which is distracting and a minor road hazard. For me being 6’ tall the reflection is about even with the top of the center of the rear view mirror. The dashboard L.E.D. lights are orangeish red, are hard on the eyes at night. Engineer that specified this color had to be color blind. Once the warranty runs out, I am replacing this awful color. The fuel warning light goes off when there is about 3-1/2 to 4 gallons left in the tank (just under 1/8 of a tank), and at about 20MPG, that’s 80 miles, way too early. Being 6’ tall, the adjustment for seating is tight.

  • TERRIBLE TRANSMISSION - 2009 Toyota Tacoma

I am very unhappy with my Toyota Tacoma truck. I purchased the TRD Sport thinking if I paid for the most I would receive the most. Come to find out after driving it for a few hundred miles the transmission stinks. It seems like it has no idea when to shift into the right gear. When turning left or right under 10 mph it feels like it is out of gear so it revs up then drops into 1st gear "very scary". It also lugs when under 30 mph. I have had it back to the Toyota dealer a couple of times asking what the problem is and can it be fixed? The last time in the District Service Rep & Service Mgr. test drove it. And they determined the vehicle is "operating normal and as designed". "Do Not Buy One"
