Overview & Reviews
Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.
Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

Tacoma not perfect - 2014 Toyota Tacoma
By Mike NADLER - April 1 - 12:14 pmThe Pre-Runner TRD. Is a very good looking truck but : rides rough, low roof when entering, E-tune audio system marginal, dash center pod hard to read in sunlight, driver seat back wearing poorly.

Perfect vehicle - double cab 4x4 TRD. - 2004 Toyota Tacoma
By Brian - March 30 - 3:33 pmI needed a vehicle that can haul 4 people, tow a boat, fit on off-road mountain trails, go in the mud, haul firewood, and still get decent mileage. A full-size wont go where I need it to and 12-15 mpg isnt that appealing. Enter the Tacoma double cab 4x4 with TRD. I took my first trip with it last weekend. We travel with 2 dogs, 2 coolers, and 4 large totes. Our destination is a hunting cabin in the woods which requires traversing a couple miles of tight, rough trails that a full-size cant do without scratches and scrapes. Quite simply, I dont know of any other vehicle that could possible meet my needs any better than the 2004 Double Cab 4x4 w/ TRD.

Shes Pretty... But She Works! - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
By Rick - March 30 - 9:00 amToyota put a lot of thought into the Tacoma and the needs of a light truck owner. Pressed into service as a working pickup truck, I moved the entire contents of my house without a problem. As long as you dont exceed its half-ton rating, just cram everything into the fully lined bed, tie down and go. The Tacoma looks sharp, rides high and solid, and is easy to handle on a congested city parkway or a spacious country backroad. The cab is very roomy, well- appointed, well-upholstered, and the AM/FM/CD is quite impressive for a stock system. The 4 cyl 2.7l engine lights off with a roar, sounding and feeling more like a 6. With gas prices these days, you cant beat its high 20s to near 30 MPG.

Excellent overall value - 2007 Toyota Tacoma
By Tren - March 29 - 6:46 pmHaving owned Ford long beds, this truck is far superior in every way except power on hills. I chose the I4 Prerun for value reasons and its lived up its name. Hauling a motorcycle on a hill with the manual tran at 70 was not a problem nor has getting 22-27 (26-7 if you drive speed limit; my overall avg. is 23.5) on the highway for my daily commute. Ive driven 8 hours straight (one stop for gas) and enjoyed comfort comparable to the Accord; cruise control is a must! Also, the midrange power from 70-85 has been surprisingly responsive for those days when youre in a rush. IMO, this truck is a long term keeper.

My little truck - 2007 Toyota Tacoma
By Moved from GM - March 27 - 12:56 pmThe truck has done well for me. It has met my expectations to date. The only draw back is the dealer installed cruise control.

Best taco Ive ever bought - 2009 Toyota Tacoma
By slyonEI - March 23 - 6:13 amDrives like a car on the road most of the time. Drives like a sports car on the dirt roads. 4 seats - 9 cup holders. Very cold A/C. Surprisingly good on gas considering its size. Only real gripes are the always-on speedo lighting (fine until its dark, then you become popular with the police cuz you thought the lights were on). And wipers. I live in the northeast - there is no intermittent setting on the wipers. My 99 base model corolla had that! If its drizzling its a pain to hit that every 5 seconds. You put a/c in the thing and power windows...and 9 cup holders. Couldnt you do that Toyota?

Awesome - 2013 Toyota Tacoma
By cisrab - March 22 - 7:59 amI have owned jeeps, wranglers and cherokees. This Tacoma with the TRD off road package, supercharger, and Baja suspension is a much better vehicle then the jeeps. Much more reliable and excellent off road. Will it mach a Rubicon no, but it will hang with it. The truck is much more reliable and comfortable on the road then a rubicon. Toyotas dependability is unmatched.
