Overview & Reviews
Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.
Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

Odometer says 127,000 - 2007 Toyota Tacoma
By PlainJoe - May 19 - 4:26 pmThis is my ultra reliable work truck. I clocked 127,000 in less than 3 years. I only change oil, did not even get a tune up. Changed front brakes, rotors and a set of tires. Will change tires again soon. Hows that for reliability. In 2 more years, will change this truck with another Tacoma.

Great Truck, But... - 2008 Toyota Tacoma
By Steve from Wisconsin - May 16 - 5:00 amI have the 2-wheel drive PreRunner with the TRD offroad package and locking rear differential, 4-wheel ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist. All in all, I rate this truck the best-engineered vehicle I have ever owned--a wonderful piece of work. It is sheer pleasure to see the intelligence used in its planning and execution. But I have traded it in after two years of ownership (for another Toyota) because it is dangerous on slippery roads. I have had multiple spinouts on snow, even when proceeding slowly and carefully. (The only other minus is the mileage, but I was fairly warned, so cant complain.) This 2WD isnt for snow country.

This will be my last Toyota - 2004 Toyota Tacoma
By Dissapointed - May 13 - 8:56 pmActually this was my first Toyota ever. It will also be my last. This thing is as unreliable as can be. It leaves you stranded randomly and then it runs great for a few days again. The problems started shortly after the 60,000 mile mark, and to no surprise the drivetrain warranty expired at 60,000 miles. This is my last Asian vehicle ever (Had a Honda Accord years ago and it was a money pit).

Great truck! - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
By BG - May 7 - 11:11 pmPeople on here have been whining about the shifting but honestly, its a Tacoma...not a race truck. It takes a little getting used to but once you settle into it and learn how it shifts, its not hard to adapt your driving style a little to take advantage of it. I love the design inside and out, everything feels solid and its everything you expect from a Tacoma. I am 61 and once I got the seat/steering wheel adjusted, its a comfy ride and its very easy to drive. I havent had much cargo to haul yet so I dont have a lot to say there except that I love the adjustable cargo locks, those are VERY handy to have.

Almost still original after 152,000 - 2000 Toyota Tacoma
By GB - May 7 - 10:26 pmI bought my Toyota Tacoma with 40,000 miles on it. 7 years later I now have 152,000 miles on it. Other than routine items such as brakes, tires, batteries, air filters. Everything is still original. I did have to replace the o2 sensor at 102,000 miles. Great truck, my kids will be still driving it 10 years from now.

Performance - 2003 Toyota Tacoma
By billu - May 7 - 2:00 amAfter comparing all trucks in this class the Toyota by far offers the most for your money. I own a 4-runner with a 3.0 and it has trouble with mountian roads. This Tacoma powers up the hills with no problem. Ride and handling is about the same as other trucks with an off road package.

Look at FRAME first !!!! - 2005 Toyota Tacoma
By yomama - May 6 - 12:33 amI am the owner of 2005 reg cab 4x4. It has a huge problem with rust on the frame. The rust is not all the way thru but it already has started and I have never seen rust like this so early. Frame actually looks as if it belongs to a truck 20 years old! I would only recomend this truck to someone living in a very dry area. I will not purchase another Toyota because of this. How safe can it be to drive down highway with nothing holding the truck together? I wish I would have known before purchase. Too bad, I get over 25 mpg with A/C on in city!
