Overview & Reviews
Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.
Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

New Tacoma: 21st Century Truck - 2005 Toyota Tacoma
By WMaddox - May 29 - 7:03 pmTerrific Truck. My Tacoma makes me smile every day. Not a squeak, not a rattle, not a thump. I looked at the Nissan Frontier; it feels too truck- like compared to the Toyota. I also checked out the Honda Ridgeline and was discouraged by the 6K dealer markup & typical (and inexplicable) Honda styling effort. Although I believe all three are excellent buys. The "Taco" can do it all: drives like a car, plays in the dirt, and hauls the family or a pile of bricks with equal efficiency. The 5-speed automatic tranny is a dream, better mileage and 0-60 times than the 6-speed manual, go figure... Therefore, Im no longer a stick shift only guy. Now Im enjoying the lazy ("shiftless") lifestyle.

TRD Tacoma Double Cab SB - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
By NJNUT - May 25 - 9:06 pmI have owned several trucks and this is by far the best I owned. I have driven it long on long trips and it is comfortable to drive. The truck feels very solid on the road, much more car like than the past without being a car. I like trucks and didnt want to own a car. The 4 door models give quite a bit of leg room not at all like the older double cabs. Toyotas build quality is the bench mark of the industry. The 4.0 liter V-6 is like a n8 with better gas ratings. 4X4 TRD package is nice and the 4x4 is one of the best I owned. Driving through the tough beach sand is easy.

perfect for my purposes - 1998 Toyota Tacoma
By jim scott - May 25 - 8:20 pmReliable, economical, and nice looking; its all I might ask from a little truck, and Im a little disappointed Toyota has "sexed it up" with the 2005 model year. Mine has 90000 miles on it and still has my complete confidence. Only gripe? 42 foot turning circle makes some U turns problematic.

Excellent!! - 1999 Toyota Tacoma
By Heathcoat - May 25 - 2:00 amI bought this truck because I knew that Toyota was very reliable and I wanted a truck. I am very pleased with its performance so far! I have put almost 70,000 miles on it, and have not had any problems with it thus far!

This truck is forever!! - 2008 Toyota Tacoma
By Big Al - May 24 - 2:50 pmI bought the loaded TRD offroad package. Sharp black baja rims. I love the feeling of driving this car. Its smooth, tight, you dont feel pot holes - it seems to glide right over them, it feels like a truck sports car. Its quiet on the road, has organized storage to put things. Make sure you get it with all the options available. You will want them when you own it for awhile. Do not sacrifice comfort - get the upgraded seats. They are great with lumbar support.
