Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

This truck has a very smooth and stable ride for a 4x4 truck. The 3.4L V6 has plenty of power and has a quick throttle response. The 5 speed shifts smooth and tight. Overall I am very impressed with the quality and drivability of this truck, the best vehicle I have ever owned.

Having previously owned a 2007 Tundra and a 2011 Tundra, wife and I agree this is our favorite truck. While it does have a bit of float and wander at highway speeds, it is very commanding and capable off road and in the snow. Yes, we take it off-road in rough terrain often. We have over 9k miles on it so far and have had no issues. My wife drives this truck frequently and comments on the sense of security and reliability it provides her. Naturally, it may not be the truck for everyone, but it is right for us. We opted for the magnetic gray with gray interior and factory folding tonneau cover.

Just about everything youd want except for heated seats and an upgraded stereo/gps system. Averaging 20mpg... sweet engine transmission combo. TRD Package.

  • 2009 sr5 double cab 4x4, my mistake - 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Not happy with build quality, ventilation system did not work and Windows fogged very badly but was repaired under warranty. Air conditioner is very weak on hot days, after 4 trips to dealer it is better but still not what I expected from Toyota. The radio turns itself off and on during hot weather, still not replaced by dealer. Paint job is not consistent and has foreign material in it. Lots of wind noise. Rear springs bottom out easily with very light loads. Composite bed tie downs should be in front of bed not rear. I can not believe I have to go to dealer to check the auto trans. Fluid level. Beware Toyota quality is no longer what it once was. I think I will soon be driving a f150

  • Best Truck on the Market! - 2009 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Ive had numerous Toyota trucks and 4runners in my life. I have to say this truck is by far the best, hands down. The interior is very roomy and there are storage throughout. I purchased the top of the line model, TRD Offroad package, with the Bluetooth and reverse camera. AWESOME features that are new to 2009. Love the LED taillights which are essential for the reverse camera at night. I also love the new Magnetic Gray color, which puzzles me why this color was never available on Tacomas before. This truck has exceeded all my expectations and I highly recommend this vehicle to anyone in the market for a mid-size truck. The only negative is the high price.

Bought the truck a 2 weeks ago. Already I want to buy another one (only 4 wheel drive) and give this one to the wife. She is addicted to it.. Right now she drives a corolla. I wish the truck was sold a little bit more user friendly..IE.. floor mats, bed liner etc..

  • My review of the best truck ever! - 2004 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

This truck has been my favorite of all time. I have always had a Toyota truck and always will. This truck and my previous truck have never let me down. Everything about it is great. The reliabilty of these motors will outlast any motor on the market today. 5 thumbs up.

This is the best truck Ive ever had. Looks great, runs great and everyone wants one. Increased horsepower and the composite bed make this the best truck on the road.

  • Follow-up to my earlier review - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

A few weeks ago I wrote the review "Be Careful and Test Drive". Since then I towed a 5X8 UHaul trailer from Florida to Ohio - approx. 1100 miles. I simply wanted to report that the average mpg dropped from my normal average 20 mpg without towing a trailer to 15.3 mpg with towing the trailer which was full. Quite a drop in mpg evidencing once again the "lugging" problem that I and others have reported. Hopefully Toyota will come out with a fix caused by the engine/transmission defaulting to 6th gear and 1100 RPM. I could barely get up the hills/mountains on I-77 through Virginia and West Virginia without manually shifting. Even my salesman in Colorado where I purchased the vehicle said "this vehicle is not suitable for the Colorado mountains". I should have listened to him.
