Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • Awesome Truck! - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Just bought my truck and it is proving to be exceptional! Total comfort, excellent ride, sleek lines, powerful engine, great turn radius. Thoughtful extras as the mulitude of cup and water bottle/soda bottle holders, sunglass holder, extra storage area under the back seats, sliding adjustable ties downs in the bed, large storage compartment between the seats. The cabin of the truck feels large and the seats give good support and leg room. Driving a truck is actually a pleasure again.

  • Solid truck for recreation - 2008 Toyota Tacoma

This truck is a tank in mud and snow. Less than a week after we purchased it, we took it out into the Owhyee Mountains. While crawling up hills though several inches of mud, the Tacoma tracked very well where other (much larger) trucks had slid off the road and torn up the brush. My Tacoma has forded many streams and climbed over rocks without developing any problems. With lots of payload (lbs) and a truck bed, I can fit all my gear, including shovels and saws, for winter camping in the truck, plus my dogs crate in the back seat. It handles surprisingly well on highway - better than my Subaru Forester. Over 16000 miles, Ive averaged 20 mpg in city, highway, and off-road miles.

This is everything you should expect from a cheap 4X4. It gets the job done, but it is uncomfortable as hell. I have ended up driving it long distances from time to time, and I didnt intend to do so when I bought it. Still, I knew what I was getting, and have no complaints. Come on, its a Toyota truck!

if the worst thing i can say about my truck is that they put the clock in the wrong place. then it must be great. the thing that suprised me was how much room it has. i am a large person and i dont like to put a car or truck on like a pair of pants. if you like the convience of a truck and the ride of a car then check this one out. it truly is is a mans truck.

  • 06 Tacoma double cab Sport Ed. - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

The ever elusive double cab sport in silver has been worth every penny. Driving this truck is a dream come true. The sport edition ride is silky smooth with the occasional nudge of its blistien shocks, indicating her wild side. The automatic trans is very user friendly and makes me feel like I am preparing for take off from a carrier or something. The seating is suprisingly high as I find myself looking down on most commuters. Though the short bed leaves little for contractors I believe it looks and fits best with the double cab configuration. Thanks Toyota.

  • Best Compact Truck - 2007 Toyota Tacoma

I love my new truck, 4dr 4WD 6cyl 5spd Auto, with Off Road Suspension Pkg and Tow Pkg (6500lbs). Ride/suspension is better than anything I would expect from a truck. Very quick when needed and havent climbed with it yet but plenty of torque @ 266 ft lbs. Quiet smooth ride, great steering/ handling/ shift and great sound system w/upgrd stereo/6cd + subwfr. Plenty of front and back legroom. Quality vs. cost = great value. 18/21 mpg! If you want a compact truck w 4wd, plenty of space, hp, tow capacity, mpg, and quality then Tacoma is best choice for a few 1000 more.

  • Water Infiltration - 2010 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I am wondering if anyone else had water infiltration problems caused by incomplete seal behind cab. I could see the water clearly under the mat and the dealer found that the joint on the cab between cab and box was poorly done. They repaired the joint and replaced the foam beneath the carpet however there was always a smell in the truck. I recently brought it in and they agreed about the smell but wanted me to pay for some canister they would use to eliminate all odours, I had to argue my point despite them knowing full well the problem was real. I had ducks waiting to get in there was so much water inside

  • Good Truck - 2013 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I had been driving a 1994 Toyota pickup for 17 years and decided to trade for a new one. I was sure it would be another Toyota, and spent quite a bit of time deciding which model to get. Im hopeful that my research might help others in deciding what to buy. I mostly drive the truck back and forth to work, so it was important to get a comfortable vehicle that is fun to drive. The SR5 package has more comfortable seats in my opinion and a nicer interior, so I got the SR5 package. The 4-cylinder has plenty of power for me. The truck is quiet and comfortable and I enjoy driving it.
