Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • Great all around truck - 2004 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I bought this Tacoma 4wd, v6, 5spd, TRD pkg. The Taco is fun to drive, looks great, handles snow like its dry pavement, and seems as if built to last a lifetime. Ive had only a slight squeak in the dash on the pass. side. Ive put on over 14000 miles in 9 months driving to the mountains of NH, and this past week have tackled a 3 foot blizzard in boston with no problems. Great for a single guy/couple with no kids. Back seat good only for storage or the dog, not much more. Good factory radio, cold a/c, and supportive seats make this my commuter truck/weekend-warrior mobile! You wont regret this one.

  • A legit "use me like a truck" Pickup Truck - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

The 2016 holds fast to the concept of a true pick up truck. You want to take your truck into the mountains? This is it. Do you want to drive up and down the city streets with air conditioned seats? Hard pass. This is an active persons truck! Its purpose built.... The purpose? Adventure. No its not the fastest, no its not the most powerful but dont be fooled, this truck can hold its own on road. Off road and youre in rare company with a Wrangler...

  • Tacoma - all the way - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I have had this vehicle now for almost 3 months. Love it to death. Had a slight mishap in an off-road extravaganza and messed my rim up. What should have been a bent control and tie rods ended up with just a mere alignment jar. Amazing vehicle inside and out. I get comments from people who drive the F150,250, Dodge 1500, 2500, and Chevy seirra, they all like the comfort of the front seats. Now let me talk about performance, the off-road package is the way to go. Bilstein shocks, and a built in engine braker in the transmission. Great control. Going around bends, this vehicle leans less then my previous 2WD tacoma that was base height, not nearly as high as this. WELL BUILT!

  • Best ever owned - 2003 Toyota Tacoma

Best well-made vehicle ever owned. Everything just seems to have been efficiently and ergonomically designed with the drivers needs and comforts in mind. Construction appears to be made with sound materials and involves quality engineering. Detroit needs to look closely here at a winner.

  • Second Tacoma - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Last Tacoma 2011 trade in 17500 dollars, highest trade in for any other truck brand I ever owned. The 2011 Tacoma had routine maintenance never any mechanical issues just tires and oil changes. The 2016 Tacoma gets 1-1/2 GPM more than the last Tacoma same HP but the 2016 has a 6 speed transmission, improve body style, better seat covers. The SR series has heated outside mirrors and fog lights an upgrade from the 2011 Tacoma SR series. Dont care for the plastic rear bumpers, but the tailgate is much more substantial and has a soft open and close feature. Wish they would have put disc brakes on the rear wheels maybe next year, overall would recommend this truck.

  • Impressed overall since purchased - 2002 Toyota Tacoma

Put most of the miles on it during the past 6 years (highway miles) driving 300 miles one way every 3-4 weeks. Since January 2010 have only put about 1200 miles on it. Comfortable for a tall person like me, and handles well. Economy was between 22-24 MPG, but got 26 a couple of times when my driving was below 60mph. Averaged 20 mpg around town. Height of truck bed low enough for carrying small loads and loading fertilizer, chicken feed, mulch in (50-60 pound bags). Selling it at 115,000 miles. Transmission went out at 78,900, but had purchased extended waranty, which covered replacement and rental car. Enjoyed truck, but cant carry new grand kids in it.

  • Toyota quality? - 2009 Toyota Tacoma

    1. On fourth radio! Replaced under warranty, all. Radio would turn on, on its own, turn off on its own, wouldnt turn on at all and would not shut off when needed. Toyota radios can have issues. Talking with lady today who I shared shuttle bus home from Toyota (more on that down page) and she too experienced problematic stereo system in her Toyota. 2. Steering linkage boot torn underside of truck which apparently needed whole steering assembly be replaced not just boot cover. This also under warranty. 3.Reason for this report? Truck is an 09, with 57,000km on it and is now in shop for a new starter! No warranty left, $500 bill coming up!

  • Tacoma Blues - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

I am writing this review to help identify problems for future buyers of 2016 Tacomas. I purchased a 2016 Double cab 4 door Limited , listing for over $40,000.00 , and I am having problems with the motor noise, accelerating , and lack of power . The truck sounds like a sewing machine running, and accelerating in traffic is a real problem. I am afraid to try and get on the freeway because the lack of power almost gets me ran over. I paid more for the Limited Addition, and I feel Toyota should be responsible for getting rid of the above mentioned problems . I forgot to mention the transmission shifting is very rough, and not smooth . I am also hearing outside exhaust noise in the cab ( Not quiet at all , like a new truck should be . ) What has gone wrong with Toyota, I traded a 2005 Tacoma in for this truck, and the 2005 was better the day I traded it in on this vehicle, than this 2016 truck will ever be. I have just 3000 miles on the new truck, but I feel the problems will be passed over, as I have heard others having the same problems, and dealers telling them -"Thats just normal for this truck " but I know better. I have not taken my truck to the dealer yet for repairs, as I have only had it for appx. 3 months. I know other 2016 Tacoma owners that have been to dealers with their trucks, and been told --" You just have to live with the problem, theres nothing wrong. I am considering selling this new truck that I have had only 3 months, and that is pitiful. I hope Toyota sees this review, and responds , as I would seriously like to talk to someone about the above mentioned problems

  • So Happy I Got The Toyota - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

First I have to say that this is the second Toyota truck I’ve had, but the first was a 93 reg cab. This truck is a different animal all together. To start with, this beauty is as comfortable and nice inside as a luxury car. Soft seats hug you, smart gauges and dash layout are both functional and well thought out. From the outside it’s as inspiring. A much larger truck than my 93. It’s nearly as large as the full size Chevy out in my parking lot. The v6 is quick, very quick. Handles like a dream. This truck just plain rocks. Just a great idea made into a great truck.

  • Avoid Toyota!! - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Shifting shudder and large clunk when stopping and starting "just part of the design" per Toyota. See http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/tacoma/66233-toyota-addresses-tacoma-transmission/ for other reports. Toyota quality and customer service terrible! Also, according to Toyota, it is acceptable for their dealers to put used tires on a new truck when the dealer is unable to fix another customers tire balance problem. Whatever you do, dont make the mistake of buying a Toyota!! You will not get what you pay for -- youll only hear that your problems are "design features".
