Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • great truck - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Excellent truck, drives like a small truck with the power and dimensions of a larger truck. Another couple of inches of leg room in the back would be nice.

  • Cheap truck - 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Cheap truck. Plastic bed, unboxed frame rails and suspension components cheap compared to domestics. Lots of cheap interior plastic, and seems like it overall is just built inferior. Should have bought the Dakota or a 1/2 ton domestic. Throttle recalls, Rusty frame recalls. etc. Toyata has lost all quality control.

  • bought new - 1995 Toyota Tacoma

Very dependable truck. Had to replace the center leafs on both rear springs. Did that 3 years ago and no problems since. Sort of a chore changing the oil filter. Box is not very sturdy. Not sure if it is worth the extra money for Toyota quality? lot or routine maintenace like valve lash adjustment etc.

  • Its HUGE!! - 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Owned a Tacoma extra cab previously. Bought quad cab site unseen- its enormous! Toyota blew up Tacoma like a balloon. Love the power and room, but feel like Im driving a dump truck. 57 y/o lady and its much more truck than expected. Hear the vibration that others note. Drove the same model at dealer, and vibration was worse than mine. Everything else is usual Toyota quality. 23mpg hwy-comfy/roomy for husband, me & dog on long trips. We have trouble with visibility on right side. Gorgeous and feels very safe- would love to have had this when kids were young. Hope I get used to the size (mammoth- not the Tacoma Im used to!) and hope to keep for many years as with other models weve owned.

  • the perfect vehicle for me - 2000 Toyota Tacoma

I traded in my nissan pathfinder for my toyota pre-runner pick up, what a relief, i love the 16-20 mpg and the interior is fun and comfortable, i get lots of compliments on the looks and style of my truck, i have not had any major problems with my pre-runner just routine maintenience and had replace the battery after 3 years, i also enjoy the sound system and the extended cab. this is a great vehicle for commuting to work, weekend projects, out door activities, and you can still go out for a night on the town and still look stylish.

  • By far the best vehicle Ive owned!! - 2014 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

If you want a very dependable truck that will do all the things you need a mid sized truck to do dont look anywhere else. My 2014 Toyota Tacoma is solid. Ive had the truck 3 years and I have 90,000 miles on it. Not a problem with it to date. I think actually it runs and drives now like the day I picked it up off the lot in 2014. I tow a 18 foot bass boat all over the country with it and havent had an issue. Im still on the original breaks with 40% left on the pads. Toyota is all about quality and dependable product. Ill never buy anything else!!

  • Great Truck - 2000 Toyota Tacoma

Extremely reliable truck. Also, the truck is the most sure footed vehicle I have ever driven in the snow. The looks of the truck from the outside are classy and from the inside simple and straight forward. The stock seats are torture devices. Also, the cup holders are poor.

  • Very satisfied with new Tacoma - 2005 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

The Tacoma is a very solid and well designed truck. I did exhaustive research (considered every truck available) for 1 full year prior to deciding to buy the Tacoma. I am very satisfied and certain I made the best choice. I needed a truck that was tough, reliable, economical (as reasonably possible), suitable for family transport (wife w/ 2 kids), with respectable load/towing specs. The sport-shift style transmission is great for towing as it (almost) allows the same level of control that a manual does. The Tacoma is a sensible, all- around great truck. It does everything well. It just looks solid/tough and actually is based upon my experience thus far.

  • American trucks suck! - 2004 Toyota Tacoma

My 3rd toyota! Love the 4 doors and all the room it gives. You pay extra for the toyota quality but its worth every penny!

  • New Toy - 2004 Toyota Tacoma

I have driven many trucks but this one is the best by far. We own a Dodge and sevral Chevys on the ranch but none of them compare to the build quality of the Toyota. Not the most powerful on the market, or largest, but hands down my favorite.
