Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

I bought this vehicle brand new in 2001 and still use it for delivery business. I have put 328000 miles on it with only minimal problems. Replaced auto transmission at 300000 but that is the only thing major gone wrong with this many miles. Still starts easily and drives perfect. Does not smoke or burn oil and runs like a sewing machine. Most dependable reliable vehicle ever owned.

I bought the truck in Greenville, SC. Moved 2 kayaks, boating & camping gear, coolers, etc., from our van into the truck at the dealership. My son and I headed off into the NC mountains in search of whitewater. The 4x4 system worked great. The truck had enough room for our 2 week trip. The double doors made the Access cab useful. The cab has great storage areas.

  • Good truck, rough ride - 2004 Toyota Tacoma

I actually purchased this truck in june of 2002. During the first couple of months I really enjoyed this truck. But, then the harsh ride and the plywood seats started hurting my back every time I went off road or on a trip for longer than 2 hours. I am getting ready to purchase a 1500 crew cab chevy in june, and I cant wait for that smoother ride and those soft seats.

  • 2005 Tacoma 6 speed manual - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Ive had my new Tacoma 7 weeks and I love it. The 4.0 V6 with the 6 speed manual trans is awesome. This truck is super quick. It has a lot of power to spare. It will smoke just about every pickup in its class (except maybe the V8 Dodge Dakota). I have the TRD sport pack 2 with the intake scoop on the hood which is a nice touch. I love the way this truck rides and handles. I was able to get it in the Speedway metallic blue color which really attracts attention. Since Ive had it I added the aluminum tubes steps, sunshades, bug shield, and OBX shifter. Im waiting for a cab high cap and gibsen performance exhaust that is due anyday to complete my add-ons. No wonder its rated 05 truck of the year.

  • Super Truck - 2001 Toyota Tacoma

I have own this truck for 4 years now and still love it. The sporty lines are awesome and the drivability is great and has plenty of ponies to get around people when I need to go. Handling is the best feature on this truck. I would reccommend this truck to anyone looking for a fun to drive small truck. Only draw-back is I am 64" and could use more headroom, but tilt the seat back a little and I make it work.

  • My First Taco - 2017 Toyota Tacoma

This vehicle is unique, Ive had Fords 150, 250, Chevys K5, C2500, Dodges Ramchargers, Honda Ridge, MDX, but with that all said, and 58 years later, I pissed off the sales department, but heck, I signed the dotted line for 36x15k per yr, 2017 Taco Limited. I will say I due have a concern about the transmission, acting like a PMSing woman, but my bad azz days r in my mirror. The jury is still out in general, but for the 1,700 miles Ive put on so far, mostly city, 500 highway. Im ok with this thang. Acura MDX was my fav, but I needed an open air pickup due to the chemicals I transport. But Ive been complimented x 4 times, about the looks of the taco, me Im a fat ugly porkroll. But the lil runt gets a 8.5 on a scale of 1 to 10 with me.
