Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • Hooked on Tacomas!!! - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Traded in our 2011 Tacoma in Sept/16 at Diehl in Butler, Pa.....we were thrilled with trade in value. These trucks are built to last for sure! Our first service needed on our 2011 was at 136,000 miles for parking lights! Unbelievable! We had added running boards, rain visors and bed cover...such a good looking truck! We sell antiques and travel to shows for buying and selling so we use a 16 ft enclosed trailer. The truck always performed well for us. Now we just bought a 2017 Tacoma...added all the above but havent decided on our bed cover yet. Love it already but still think our other (dark grey) was prettier than the new white one!

  • Outstanding Truck--worth the price - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

After one month of ownership, I have no serious complaints about this truck. It handles wonderfully and has plenty of power to spare. I am so glad I chose the LB over the SB. I am 6-4 285 and was plenty comfortable in the front cab. I test drove this cab with 3 others that were over 6-0 and 200 pounds and we were all mostly comfortable. As far as noise goes it can get a little loud during accelleration but is reasonable and quiet most of the time. Hope you like cup holders, this has a bunch, good for cups and water bottles in the doors.

  • One awesome truck! - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

I traded in my 2001 S-runner for the new 2005 model. The interior was completely overhauled for the 2005 edition. Compared to the old Tacoma, the 2005 is a lot more roomier, stylish, and alot more accessible. The access cab has a fold down passenger seat and four doors for easy loading. The 4.0L engine has a nice burst of power that comes in handy when needed. The composite bed liner seems very durable and it covers the bed rails helping to avoid paint damage. The 21 gallon fuel tank is great for long trips. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and I highly recommend this vehicle if you are looking for a compact truck.

  • I love my Tacoma - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

I love this truck. It definitely feels like a truck. It has way more features than are available on the competition. It is loads of fun to drive. I highly recommend it.

I recently replaced my 1997 T100 SR5 with the access cab Tacoma. I had well over 200,000 on the T100. I figured the Tacoma would serve me well also. I ordered the 4cyl Base Access Cab with the SR5 Package. The milage for the first month has been 24.6 - 25 MPG. The fit and finish is excellent, Millage is where it is advertised, and performance with the 4 cyl. has exceeded my expectations. I like the rear view camera, makes hooking up my small trailer a snap! I have a single axle trailer that I use to pull my Arctic Cat Prowler around with. The trailer loaded weighs about 1700 lbs., I have not had any problems to date. Id purchase the same truck again!

  • 4X4 Beast reliable fun safe! - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

The only bad thing about my truck is the poor fuel economy. I get about 19 mpg. Other than that its a beast. Back seat fits adults just fine. I have pulled out several lifter 4x4 diesel trucks out of the mud, snow, and sand. Pulls loads great. 4X4 like no other and it soaks up the bumps great!

  • My Yoda may last forever - 1999 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I bought yoda new in 1999. Aside from a major accident in 2007 ($16,000 in repairs), all I have done is routine maintenance and I am at 135,000 mi. Regular oil changes at every 5k and new breaks at 90k. I dont have a 4x4, but I take it muddin sometimes, and it makes we work hard to get it stuck (using the winch is half the fun). Aside from its stunning good looks and how fun it is to drive, it is extremely reliable. It always starts on the first turn, even in the cold.

  • noisy ride. - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

They call it wind noise in the weather stripping between 15 and 45 mph but you can hear it with windows rolled down and being on the outside of the truck. Maybe the tires, faulty design but it hums like crazy and they just keep saying they know about it but Toyota hasnt given them a solution yet. Would not pay all this money out again on a Toyota. This is my 3rd one and my last one. All have had noise issues and I am hard of hearing.

  • Wife took over my truck! - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

In my previous review, I mentioned longer life for brake rotors, come to find out the front brakes were under excessive load and not balanced with the back brakes. Problem has been fixed and I am proud to report smooth stops! The truck is great and I plan on keeping it until it drops dead around 500,000 miles. Truck has plenty of room for your "stuff", SUV owners should consider this truck as an alternative with more room in the back (-w-camper shell). It is easier to park in the smaller spaces at the shopping center, I traded a size pickup for this reason got tired of backing up and trying again to get into a spot.

  • My 05 PreRunner 10 Years Later - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Generally speaking, the Tacome is without a doubt the Best Looking Mid-Size Pickup out there. The 4.0L V6 is an excellent power plant with great acceleration and towing capability. The interior is average at best, although improvements have come on later models, it is stil very comfortable on long drives and easy to get Ina and out of. The handling capability for this truck is pretty solid around turns and the ride suspension is pretty decent as well. Obviously Tacomas Rule, because everywhere I go, I see them more than any other truck.
