Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • Cant buy a better truck - 2001 Toyota Tacoma

One solid reliable truck. I had an 89 2dr toyota truck with 180K and only changed a fuel pump. When I upgraded to the 2001 I couldnt be happier. I could use a little more leg room. Ive take it out in some heavy snows and tried to get it stuck, cant do it!

  • Dont be fooled - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

My father always said, never buy the first year of a new model or redesigned model and I didnt listen to him. This truck has had so many problems I cant even count them. It has been in the shop repeatedly since day one. To this day, I still cant get anyone to admit that the exhaust sounds like it has a leak. I thought I was buying quality, but I was fooled. Dont be. Buy a 2007 or later. By all they have learned about mine, those next years should be great!

  • Good not Great - 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Overall, a good truck, but not great like Id thought it would be. Anti- lock brake system makes a "doosh!" sound when the vehicle is initially started and begins to move. Brought it to the dealership and was told it was the brake system doing a "self test", hmmmm. Annoying more than anything else as it was a 30k vehicle. Find myself keeping the tranny in D4 around town as it is quick to upshift into the highway gear but slow to downshift. Should have gotten the limited slip option as it slips pretty easy in loose gravel or greasy hard-top after a rain. Have not towed with it yet but have used the bed and it performed well.

  • GUTLESS - 2013 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I have owned this truck for almost 2 years now and think it is a piece of junk, it is very gutless and gets very poor mileage. I bought it to get better mileage than my 1999 gmc with a v-8 however it gets less mileage than the other truck which has ten times the power and gets 20 to 22 miles per gallon. this heap only gets 18 mpg on the highway and wont climb a hill more than 40 miles per hour, as well as it shifts into overdrive going up a hill and is loosing speed....wish I had my GMC back and toyota had this junk shoved down their throat

  • Tacoma has lost it in 2016!! - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

What can I say, I have been a huge Toyota fan for a very long time, until the new 2016 Tacoma came out, I was waiting forever for this truck to happen. Been super excited for this until I drove one, in fact I drove them all. The new 6 and the new 4 cylinder. Both are the worst running motors yet. Super under powered and very loud for what they are. Not to mention the quality of all the materials used in the cab, every button and knob is cheap! The cab noise is something else as well, I am sure it due to the quality of materials. As for looks, they nailed it, great looking truck hands down. Other than that, save your money! Or keep your old Tacoma like me. When I was at multiple dealers testing these, there were buyers over paying left and right for these trucks based on all the hype, mind blowing to me, I was thinking have you driven this??? What a reality check this would be in a week or so after taking it home. Any way, I hope Toyota realizes what they built here and makes a huge change in the future with this brand. I also never wright reviews, but this one was worth my time.

I bought this truck and it only had 15,500 miles on it and i love it. It is very stylish and their are so many great add-ons that you can buy for it. I love it being that its not to rednecky like the other trucks. It has class.

  • oh what a feelin!!! - 2002 Toyota Tacoma

Guys, My truck rocks. I love the mini truck/ 4 wheel monster/ did you say mud? Look it has. This is my 1st Toyota ever, and I love it. It feels solid on any surface I put it on. My wife seems to enjoy driving it as much as I do. Im not sure why toyota went to such a bigger body style with the tacoma. I love it when I pull Z-71s out of the mud with my little truck. The extra cab has good room for me, the wife, and a 6, and 1 year old.
