Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

After a month of thorough research I narrowed it down to the Frontier and Tacoma. The Tacoma was roomier. It does have some spongy brakes that need to get used to (TRD 4x4). Interior is an A+! Good power and ride. Very comfortable seating. I have owned Chevys all my life. This is the first Toyota that I have purchased. Sold my 04 Colorado Z71 crew cab. This blows it away hands down. Even though I bought the fully loaded Colorado, it just feels cheap to drive when compared to the Tacoma. Great job Toyota! Some additional lighting for the 4x4 and various other switches would help. Also, I had to order a cabin filter. Toyota makes the slot for one but does not place one in there? Cmon.

I own a Double Cab PreRunner long bed truck. I like the SR5 option package. Good mpg around 18.

Had this truck 30 days and a small chip from a passing regular size truck on the highway ran inches to either side in 2 hours, and much further by the end of the day. highly frustrating. Did not know to look for this trouble before buying, but this will be an expensive problem over the life of the car. I would not have purchased if I know this. there is an additional warranty they offer that supposedly would cover for a time, not worth it in the long run. AND it really needs adjustable seats, particularly driver. they have had much better technology for over a decade now, it dumbs down the vehicle not providing it for the price.

i finally figured it out... after several chevrolets, i found a truck that feels right. i can feel the quality as soon as i open the door & take a seat behind the wheel. i absolutley love the coziness of the cab & the simplicity of the controls (doesnt take long to figure out where & how everything works). the A/C blows snowcones, which is very important in BIG D. great look, great ride, great truck

16,000 miles in 6 months, no problems. Ride is a bit jarring at lower speeds over potholes, etc. Smooths out on freeway, you can go all day. Get 25-28 mpg on freeway, not much lower on two-lane roads. Decent stereo. I do not tow or haul, so cant comment on how this 4-banger handles that.

I bought a truck to be used for hunting, fishing and outdoor activities. The truck I have has the 2.7 lt engine. I have put this truck into some pretty nasty areas with mud up to the hubs and only got stuck twice. I have had friends with me while I was pulling a small boat offroad to go to one of our hunting locations tell me that there is no way we are going to make it though some of the areas we would go and the truck pull right through. One of my friends got stuck one time and the truck pulled his truck up a levee while in reverse. I have never put the truck in the shop for anything. The only thing that went out so far was the knock senser and I changed it my self. Awesome truck.

This is my first truck, and I have got to say that it is the funnest vehicle I have owned. I have always had sport sedans/coupes but this time decided on a truck. This truck is sportier and as good handling as any car Ive owned. Plus, I can off-road with it. Get lots of looks from pretty babes and jealous dudes! Comfort, ride, quality are great! Gas mileage is good being a V6 4x4. Great versatile to the hilt, utility/elegant/4 passangers/etc. You can do everything in this truck :) The interiors are great, the stereo is extraordinary with deep rich bass and clear and crisp trebble. A must have all round complete vehicle.

just traded my 2013 taco limited for a 2017 model. i hated to see the old one go but the more i drive the new one the more i am knocked out by its performance and features. everything i didnt like about the 2013 model seems to to have been addressed by toyota in the past four years. as i understand from my salesman, toyota brought in lexus engineers and they made improvements in noise control, quietness, and the ride - and it works. if you have ever fantasized about lexus making a pickup, this is it.

  • Will never buy a Toyota/Lexus product - 2000 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I bought this truck believing that it was superior to all others on the market, man was I ever wrong. My Toyota ownership has been nothing short of a nightmare! I have had a rattling dashboard, squeaking clutch pedal, leaking transmission--enough to have the truck in the shop over 16 documented times. Have been through two arbitrations with Toyota. Buy something else with Your hard earned money.
