Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

I purchased a prerunner with the SR5 package. 2 wheel drive, 5 spd., 4cyl. The fit and finish are the best of any truck I compared. The power is good and its fun to drive. Very nice interior with lots of room. A very nice truck for little money with great gas mileage.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH MY TRUCK HAS BEEN GREAT. OTHER THAN THE NEAR 100,000 MILE CLUTCH REPLACEMENT EVERYONE SHOULD EXPECT IT HASNT LEFT ME STRANDED. 4 WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM HAS YET TO LET ME DOWN. BUT THE ALTERNATOR IS IN A BAD PLACE FOR A 4 X 4. ITS LOW NEAR THE WHEEL WELL IN A SPOT MUD AND WATER REGULARLY GET SPLASHED IF YOU ACTUALLY USE THE 4WD IN THE WOODS OR THE LOCAL PLAY HOLE. JUST A SMALL OVERSIGHT.

I bought my double cab tacoma new in June of 2001. It has never been in the shop for a repair. Currently have 85000 miles on it. The seats feel a little flatter than they used to, but other than that, I love it.

Been in market for new midsize truck for over a year. Always owned Ford or Chevy. Other trucks on market are NO comparision. Drive them first then the Taco. Got a TRD Sport pkg, 4x4, Double cab 5ft bed, with a 6spd manual (thank you Toyota). Took 7 weeks to get here after ordering. No electric driving aids (trac control, stability control) Very happy that they offered a 6 spd manual in a 4 door truck and still retained a 6500 lb towing cap. With 1200 miles no problems, Gas mileage as advertised, but run 89+ octane gas. On 87 she pings down low, and runs rough when on the gas, also I noticed better mileage on high octane

  • Solid as a rock - 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Had this truck for a year and a half now. This is my second truck (had a 2001 Dakota V8 for a year but it turned out to be a lemon, nearly self- destructed). If you want a truck that is trouble free and solid, this is your vehicle. I loved my 01 Dakota (when it was running), but it had too many problems to keep. The Tacoma, while not as powerful or agile as the Dodge, is built much better. As long as youre not expecting sports car handling or power, this is a perfect truck.

  • Love it so far - 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Just got my 04 Tacoma. Previously owned a Nissan Frontier and I just cant believe how much better this truck is. The power is excellent and smooth. The 4x4 system works great and is easy to engage. Overall this truck is more than I expected.

  • One Great Truck - 2002 Toyota Tacoma

This is my fourth Toyota pickup and I love it. I went with a 4cyl this time and the power is fine. Im getting a average of 23 or 24 mpg. Im a sales rep and drive about 30,000 miles a year. So far since I bought this in may I have placed 16,000 miles in less than six months and no problem what so ever. This model with the 4cyl, x-cab, trd package is the best Tacoma Ive had thus far. I highly recommend it.

  • First Toyota - 2007 Toyota Tacoma

This is my first Toyota and after having Fords, Chevys and Jeeps. This is the best built vehicle I have owned. It feels like a well built truck. I test drove a Ford Ranger, Nissan Frontier, Chevy Colorado and none feel as tight as the Tacoma.

  • No Problems So Far - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I bought a used 2006 Tacoma with 109,000 miles on the 1GRfe engine. My Tacoma had one previous owner who maintained the truck well. After 3500 miles, I have had no problems other than having to recharge the A/C, a job I did myself in 20 minutes. Every gauge works, even the thermometer and compass. I am not a speeder and I am easy on my truck. I consistently get 20-21 miles per gallon on the highway. I dont know my city mileage . I hope the aluminum block V-6 can match the durability of an iron block power plant. I like my truck and expect it to carry on the Toyota reputation for reliability.
