Very much satisfied with this truck. Fit and finish are exceptional, as is the design. Oil changes will be easy (filter on top). The TRD sport package is exactly what I need; nothing more, nothing less. Already said, but the orange dash lighting is a little dated (70s? 80s?). Six-speed transmission is smooth and loves revs. Looked at models with tube steps and running boards -- went with the latter; they are better looking and more functional (help to protect the lower area paint). Dealer made a great offer, and, truth be told, it was the best car-buying experience in my life (and Ive bought a lot of cars). The access cab is roomy and the sound system (with CD changer) is quality.

I have the 4wd 2.7L 4 cyl std trans. The truck is economical (22-26 mpg), comfortable and dependable. The interior is comfortable and utilitarian. Mine is a work truck and hauls my tools, firewood and bike with ease. It is comfortable on long trips, has a great stereo with disc player. My only gripe is that the speedometer reads high (about 8- 10%) with stock tires. Although it isnt that important to me I also like the styling.

Got my tacoma a day before christmas, a prerunner 4cyl, access cab, silver with SR5 and alloy wheels. Absolutely love it, lots of room, drives smooth, has all the bells and whistles I always wanted in a pick-up. Overall quality of the interior is far superior than the other competitors.

  • No Problems So Far - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I bought a used 2006 Tacoma with 109,000 miles on the 1GRfe engine. My Tacoma had one previous owner who maintained the truck well. After 3500 miles, I have had no problems other than having to recharge the A/C, a job I did myself in 20 minutes. Every gauge works, even the thermometer and compass. I am not a speeder and I am easy on my truck. I consistently get 20-21 miles per gallon on the highway. I dont know my city mileage . I hope the aluminum block V-6 can match the durability of an iron block power plant. I like my truck and expect it to carry on the Toyota reputation for reliability.

  • 2006 TRD Sport 4x2 DlbCab SB - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I love my Tacoma. It is excellent truck. I researched all mid-size trucks and test drove every model out there. I have owned 4 Toyota sedans, but was open minded to other manufactures. I narrowed it down to Nissan or Toyota, b/c Chevy, Ford, Dodge dont compare. Nissan Frontier was comparable, but didnt like the interior, or the sales tactics of the dealer. Toyota brought everything together in a nice package. I bought the TRD Sport 4x2 but wish I would have got the 4x4 since I off road a lot more than I thought I would, next time. The borla exhaust and high flow intake that came with the TRD package REALLy makes a big difference, +20hp, making it sound cool and haul balls.

Bought the Black pearl TRD sport version with tow package and graphite leather installed by dealer. Found a new 6 disc tacoma stereo on ebay and had installed (under $130 total), replaced my single disc. Installed a K&N cold air induction system and would highly recomend one. Bought the window vent visors that install inside of the window track and have had no problems (looks better than glued on the cab). Westen step bars and UWS tool box perform and look fine. Has been a great truck so far. My last truck was a 1996 Toyota T-100 for ten years and it was a fine truck as well.

Lets start by saying that Im not partial to any truck brand, you name it, it doesnt matter. I do the research the best I can, if that research shows one or the other to be the better buy/quality then thats my truck. Who knows? I could spend all day listing what I like about this truck so I will stick to the bad. Year one I had three or four hard starts, dont know why but hasnt happened since. The brakes seem a little weak. I do own the biggest model Tacoma but they could still improve a bit. At 1-1/2yr, 43k miles the release strap on the passenger side back seat pulled out (very inconvenient). Still, problems are minimal.

  • Poor Suspension - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I got my SR5 4x4 access cab and loved it from day 1, and after a few months of driving and hitting a few little bumps on pavement & dirt roads (even while empty and just me driving) the rear end would bottom out and the suspension is less then standard. I couldnt be. that Toyota would allow only 2 leaf springs in the rear of any of their trucks. Otherwise the truck runs great & I think they have since upgraded this after 2006 - or at least I hope so. Everything else has been perfect.

I recently traded this truck in, but had it since 2007 when I bought it new. Never had to replace anything but the oil! It was the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Great off road, comfortable ride. The biggest downside was the fuel economy. It is very poor for a small truck! When I first bought it I didnt notice it as much but then when I moved and had to drive more the economy became very apparent. That was what made me trade it in because it was just too hard communiting 40 miles everyday.
