GAS HOG and high insurance rating - 2002 Toyota Tacoma
By willysworker - March 26 - 6:16 amBought my Tacoma PreRunner new with 2.7 L motor and automatic transmission. It has 97,000 miles and has been a gas hog. Never gotten over 22 MPG. Loaded and doing 65 MPH on interstate it averages near 18 MPG. It also has a higher than normal insurance rating even with my excellent driving record.

By Ricko - February 16 - 10:00 amI have owned Toyota for years, but this is better than I thought it would be. The 4 cylinder engine is more than enough to get around with, with or without a cargo. I have seen reviews saying it is under powered, if you want a sports car, buy one! I love this little truck, looks good, drives good, all that a new car should be. Great vehicle, really nice.

By TJG1000 - November 9 - 2:00 amThe only regret is not getting the extended cab...I bought a Leer topper so that the dogs could ride with me. The Tacoma offers great gas mileage, fun to drive and light enough to make it through deep snow without getting stuck.

Good truck, but with problems - 2002 Toyota Tacoma
By riddler - October 30 - 10:00 am2002 Tacoma double cab is very practical and capable, but mine has been a disappointment. Ive had numerous problems with a rattling dashboard (10+ trips to the dealer and it still rattles). Also, I just had a fuel tank recall and had to get some sort of metal shielding installed. Water pump leaked and had to be replaced. Another large water leak into the cab from the engine cowl - this thing is in the shop yet again getting all the carpet and jute replaced. Its a great truck ... when its not in the shop. Based on my experiences over the past 1.5 years, I would not recommend this truck. Riddler

Gotta have one. - 2002 Toyota Tacoma
By hanglide - September 22 - 2:00 amThis is my second Tacoma. My first was a 99, 4 cyl, 4WD, Xcab. It was totaled in an accident. Ended up rolling it at 55mph and walked away w/out a scratch. The truck’s design and construction saved my life! Bought a new 01, V6, 4WD, Xcad. Don’t have one complain about either. It’s great in the mud and snow with the right set of tires. I have accumulated 80K+ miles with both trucks and never had a problem with either one. Just have regular maintenance done. Can’t even complain about a rattle or squeak. I would put my money down another one without thinking about it.

toyo - 2002 Toyota Tacoma
By geizz - August 30 - 2:00 amI have a lot of fun going off road. It performs really good. On the road the ride is good but not the best it bounce a little too much. You cant fit an adult in the back (I have an extended cab). The passenger air bag is rattling like a snake and the clock is in the worst position that they could placed it, you cant see it because the steering wheel cover it. I think that the gas pedal and the brake pedal are too close, I sometimes when breaking accelerate at the same time when I am wearing my work boots. The power is there I have no complaints when I haul the trailer or when I have the bed full of stuff.
