Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

At the end of the day these trucks are amazing. They provide all of the quality an auto maker should and thats why Toyota is the best selling vehicle maker in the world. The products sell themselves!

  • No Confidence! - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I loved my 2006 Tacoma for about 18000 miles. It was a great truck until it decided to accelerate while my foot was on the brake pulling into my garage. Fortunately only the truck was damaged and my house was spared. I took the truck to the dealer to check over for the cause of the acceleration. Couldnt find a problem. Toyota regional also couldnt find a problem. I repaired the damage on mine and traded it immediately. I would never feel safe in the Tacoma again. Be careful if you are considering the Tacoma!!

Bought at 21k, now 125k in 1 3/4 yrs. Excellent truck, beat on it and it keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.

  • Cheap interior - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

This truck has a very cheap interior. The seats are very uncomfortable and the seating position if poor. I,m dissatisfied with this truck, and very disappointed after all the hype and good things I,ve heard about this truck before I bought it. I am definately going to sell it or trade for a truck with a better interior and more comfort. I am not impressed with the gas mileage either, with 19-20 miles per gallon around town.

  • My 3rd Tacoma - 2009 Toyota Tacoma

I just purchased the SR5 Access cab in the new Timberland Mica (dark green) and really enjoy the smooth ride this truck offers. I have a 4 cyl. 1998 and had a 2004 PreRunner, but I like this truck better than the 6 Cyl. PreRunner; easier to get in and out. I wish the fog lights were standard egpt., but I had the dealer add them, along with the XM radio. The 4 cyl. has plenty of power and it rides like my wifes Highlander Limited. This is one nice little truck; thanks again, Toyota.

  • Great compact crew cab - 2001 Toyota Tacoma

Love my truck. Only way to go is get the V6 otherwise you are getting an underpowered vehicle (If you like it underpowered get the nissan frontier) Only complaint is lack of availability of ABS on a base V6. The dealership (as with most Toyota dealerships) was mediocre. Too bad the dealerships are not as dependable as the vehicle. One year old and not a single problem.

I bought this truck because I was moving out west and wanted something to get me through any kind of conditions. Driven cross country several times with no problems at all. Very reliable and stylish, I get compliments on it all the time. I was worried the cost was too high but I havent regretted it for a minute since my purchase. I will drive this truck til the wheels fall off!

Words cant describe how happy Ive been with this truck. The most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Im nearing 205,000 and it is just as solid as the day I brought it home. I was hoping to get 200k with it, but now Im shooting for 400k before I even think about replacing it. No rust, no rattles, nothing leaks and no major problems. Last brake job lasted 3.5 years and 83,000 miles... amazing!

Just got out of a lemon Focus (read donewithford) review for 2000 ZX3. I bought my 99 TRD with 69K on it. This is a TRUCK! Not some wimpy little high brow SUV with mickey mouse rear axles. Love the lockers, the motor, shift in the fly, and the looks of this truck. Like how it hunkers down when ya slam it in 4low. Maintenance is simple on this truck. Oil filter easily accessible through wheel well, even with big arms. Truck is sharp. I am definitely a Yota for lifer now.
