Overview & Reviews
For 2006, a tire-pressure monitor is now standard on all Tacomas. Revised SAE testing procedures have dropped horsepower and torque ratings.
- Flexible and refined drivetrains, excellent off-road ability, 18 different body configurations, available stability control, solid build quality and reliability record, well-trimmed interior, unique bed features.
- Manual gearbox still vague through the gears, awkward emergency brake on some models.

Solid overall truck - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
By yotiss - September 3 - 12:26 pmThis truck has performed exactly as I have needed it to. I have hauled and towed thousands of pounds over the past 2 years without a hint of power loss or suspention drop. The back seat is also perfect for driving my kids around. I have 3 other friends with this truck that feel the same way. Solid truck, solid buy!!

Functional and Great Looking - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
By XChevyOwner - August 19 - 4:23 pmJust sold my fullsize for my Toy Double Cab. First tank, just over 21mpg frwy. 2nd tank just over 16mpg city. Averaging 18mpg. After 1200 miles I floored it for the first time... very impressive power. Spacious front & rear legroom. Storage is convenient, secure and out of plain view. Bed is modular, highly functional. Worry-free surface. Invest in a rubber bed mat. JBL sound system is a must. Audio controls on the steering-wheel are awesome. There is more audio than I can handle! Crisp, clear, loud and the powerful base, turns heads. Pre-runner height is just right. The ride is fair to stiff. This is my fourth truck, 3rd toyota truck. Nice to be back in a Toyota.

Severely dissappointed - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
By dunwithtoyota - July 20 - 12:16 pmIve had my 2006 for 7 years now and until recently I loved it. Very reliable and very few problems (compared to the GMs I used to drive). However when I took it for the latest state inspection it wouldnt pass because the frame is rusting away. This problem now seems to be appearing on many 05 & 06 Tacomas. Both the dealer and I contacted Toyota separately concerning this. Toyotas response was basically too bad, now go away. Before this happened I was a big cheerleader for Toyota. Now, Ill never buy another Toyota again

SWEET TRUCK - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
By przemekmsu - July 3 - 4:43 amMy first Toyota ever. So far so good. I love the muscular look of the exterior. The interior is very nice, it looks like you are driving a camry or something. I got the TRD off road package and I am taking in off road and it is so much FUN. The six speed manual transmission is cool to drive. Although the clutch is little loud when I am changing gears. Over all the truck has really good handling. The truck is definitely little more expensive than the competitors on the market, but you are getting a great truck that will last you for a very long time and toyotas reliability.

Nice performance and room - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
By reed - June 23 - 2:16 amI had to replace my Audi with a truck for work purposes. I was expecting to be disappointed but this truck has exceeded my expectations. It has decent horsepower and torque. Handles well in snow (with four sand bags and studs), stereo sounds good, Sport package has nice options. Not the most comfortable ride but the truck can carry a decent load.

Great truck - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
By rande - June 18 - 3:03 pmThis is my 8th toyota truck. My first was a 1986. I love the double cab and the long bed. Enough room and power to take the family and pull the boat, plus load my HD in the bed. The quality is second to none. Great looks as well.

Happy Overall - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
By Central Connecticut - June 14 - 2:36 pmI purchased my truck (used) to replace a well-worn full size pickup. It was my hope to buy a smaller truck, and still enjoy the higher ride, spacious cabin, and load-carrying capacity of my old truck, but with better fuel economy. Im very satisfied on the first two points, but less so on the load-carrying and fuel economy. When this truck is loaded to capacity, the rear springs are almost bottomed out. And the fuel economy is only slightly better than a full size truck. Overall, though, Im quite happy. Its handling is stiff and glued to the road, like a sports car, but comfortable on long trips. And even for a tall person, the seating and controls are very satisfactory.

No Confidence! - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
By lucyb - May 21 - 1:33 pmI loved my 2006 Tacoma for about 18000 miles. It was a great truck until it decided to accelerate while my foot was on the brake pulling into my garage. Fortunately only the truck was damaged and my house was spared. I took the truck to the dealer to check over for the cause of the acceleration. Couldnt find a problem. Toyota regional also couldnt find a problem. I repaired the damage on mine and traded it immediately. I would never feel safe in the Tacoma again. Be careful if you are considering the Tacoma!!
