Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • SWEET TRUCK - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

My first Toyota ever. So far so good. I love the muscular look of the exterior. The interior is very nice, it looks like you are driving a camry or something. I got the TRD off road package and I am taking in off road and it is so much FUN. The six speed manual transmission is cool to drive. Although the clutch is little loud when I am changing gears. Over all the truck has really good handling. The truck is definitely little more expensive than the competitors on the market, but you are getting a great truck that will last you for a very long time and toyotas reliability.

  • Could be a lot better - 2009 Toyota Tacoma

This couldve been a great vehicle but the transmission ECM had to be reset and there is a torque rumble at 25mph. Made in Mexico. This issue has been occurring on many toyotas for a while.

  • Just Bought - 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Just bought the magnetic grey 4wd v6 automatic double cab w/ 6ft long bed w/ towing package. Looks are awesome! Inside is nice, love the backup cam. Says it can pull 6500lbs which is no slouch. I also found out how to disable the seatbelt buzzer when not wearing the seatbelt. Very cool feature! Even in winter the heater heats up super fast. Engine seems a little noisy though. Good power also. Basically a nice truck but to early to tell how its going to do once I put some mileage on it. So far so good.

  • Love my Taco - 2000 Toyota Tacoma

I bought a 2000 per runner in 2001 with 25k miles on it. Now I have 238200 Mrs and it is still going strong. I have replaced brakes, battery and tires, kept the oil changed every 5k miles.

  • Worst truck I ever owned" - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Toyota should be ashamed to even sell this piece of junk. After only 210 miles, transmission not shifting correctly, buzzing feeling from steering wheel and gas pedal and a shudder at 20-25 mph. 4wd system is hard to engage. The gas mileage is at 12 in town, 18.4 on the highway. Truck has 425 miles on it now and been to the shop twice. Dealer says they cant find anything wrong with it and the condition may be normal. Are they for real. Toyota themselves are no help at all. Beware on buying the "New Tacoma". I hate driving this Tacoma. Update. After being in the shop 4 different times for a total of 42 days and never repaired I traded this junk. Toyota and the dealer are a joke. Never again will I purchase a Toyota. Traded this in on a 150.

  • o.k. but??? - 2001 Toyota Tacoma

I bought the truck for reliability and better mileage, hopefully for a truck. So far the best I can get is 18 mpg aver. I have done all maintenance including a tune-up and the six still does not idle smooth. power steering pump is noisy, and there is a delay in trans shifting in overdrive. seems to slip a bit when off and on gas when at freeway speed. positive is no leaks, very tight. Overall an ok. truck, but not the quality I expected it to be especially after my friend now has 180k on his 86 with no problems. I feel toyotas quality has gone down hill, cutting corners to save money. Give me old quality with modern looks and I would give nothing but 10s.

  • Nice performance and room - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I had to replace my Audi with a truck for work purposes. I was expecting to be disappointed but this truck has exceeded my expectations. It has decent horsepower and torque. Handles well in snow (with four sand bags and studs), stereo sounds good, Sport package has nice options. Not the most comfortable ride but the truck can carry a decent load.

I think this is a good truck and a great start for improvements

  • Tundras Little Brother - 2008 Toyota Tacoma

This really is a great truck, I have used it for hunting & fishing and some off-roading. I have the 4.0L V6 PreRunner & which ever one is the 4-door. I absolutely love it. Used to own a Dodge ram 1500, and Im glad I got a Tacoma, though I wish I had gotten a Tundra. Pros: Good & Powerful 4.0L V6, Somewhat good fuel economy (depends on how you drive, as with every other vehicle), Great off-roader even though its 4x2 (just no mudding or something of that sort), I got 0-60MPH in about 6.5-7 Seconds. Cons: Side Curtain air bag became standard on 2009 model, iPod connection became standard on 09 model (big deal for me), Somewhat jumpy if you dont have any load.
