Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • Gotta love it! - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Only put 200 miles on the truck so far but had loads of fun doing it. I opted for the TRD Offroad Package and have had a great time running over and thru anything I can find. It has everything you can want - the power, looks, performance, and driveability!

Overall a well built truck, I wish seats were a little taller. Transmission seems to lag at times. Plenty of power, and smooth ride considering its a truck. Brakes could be a little tighter, but a fun truck to drive.

I put a tool box on the truck but that make very bad road noise. The 6 cyl. will move the truck faster than the Chevrolet Z71 with the small V8 and the milage is somewhat better.

the v6 is the noise king of all vehicles. engine thrashes like a 100 year old combine. real low quality front brakes. this truck is junk. had a 93 model & was 3 times a better truck. all the 4.0 engines are like this. Probably worst vehicle I ever bought. Knocking noise is on left side of engine . Not normal or it would be on both sides .

This vehicle Ive owned for 2 years. It has automatic accelerated twice. Toyota refuses to deal with the issue, blaming the weather tech floor liners. Which come no where near the gas pedal. The truck should not continue to accelerate while you have both feet on the brake mashing it to the floor.

  • Functional and Great Looking - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Just sold my fullsize for my Toy Double Cab. First tank, just over 21mpg frwy. 2nd tank just over 16mpg city. Averaging 18mpg. After 1200 miles I floored it for the first time... very impressive power. Spacious front & rear legroom. Storage is convenient, secure and out of plain view. Bed is modular, highly functional. Worry-free surface. Invest in a rubber bed mat. JBL sound system is a must. Audio controls on the steering-wheel are awesome. There is more audio than I can handle! Crisp, clear, loud and the powerful base, turns heads. Pre-runner height is just right. The ride is fair to stiff. This is my fourth truck, 3rd toyota truck. Nice to be back in a Toyota.

  • Former Ford Guy, Turned to Tacoma - 2013 Toyota Tacoma

I have only owned Rangers and F150s my whole life. Its 2012 and Ford no longer makes the Ranger nor did they ever offer a 4 cyl double cab. I turned to Toyota due to claims of reliability and the size of the Tacoma. Its the perfect size. Bought the Double cab prerunner with the 4 cyl motor and LOVE it. Plenty of power to get around. MPG is right on EPA estimates which I cant say about my F150. So far have averaged 21.4MPG with heavy city driving. The build quality is great as are numerous features of the truck. It looks tough and sits high which I like for visibility.

  • Great Truck for the Money - 2008 Toyota Tacoma

I had been looking at trucks for over a year when I finally took the plunge and purchased the Tacoma. It is a great truck for what I need it for. Adequate room for all the stuff I need for work and the children are comfy in the back seat. I added several options to the truck that I felt should almost come as standard features in this day and age (iPod hookup, all weather mats, hands free phone, etc.).

  • Its a good truck - 2003 Toyota Tacoma

its a good solid reliable truck all the way around.

I have been thinking about replacing one of our Subarus with a off road pickup and was happy to see remodeled Tacoma. Upon driving it though, I have to wonder what the Front Office is thinking. Did they test drive this dog before they released it? I doubt it because it is so lacking power and transmission gel that it made for a very dissappointing test drive. I wont buy one until they address these ridiculous shift points. In trafic you have to just about floor it to change lanes and it has a very annoying vibration. I cannot imagine taking this hound on the freeway. The seat is "one size fits all". There is no seat height adjustment on this 37,000 vehicle! [non-permissible content removed]
