Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • Not as impressed as I thought Id be - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

I love Toyotas. My experience with this one has been not as satisfactory as past. 7000 kms - all 4 hubs fell off. 14000 kms transmission needed replacing. 90 000 A/C compressor done and needs replacing- not under warranty and rare for this to go so early-very expensive part. Want to sell but dont want others to take on these issues if still to come. Toyota customer service was less than satisfactory on helping me with these issues. So surprised due to previous experience with Toyota. :(

This is the first Toyota truck that I have owned. It is comfortable and handles very well. The gas mileage is not quite up to specs, however I have only 3,000 miles on vehicle and it seems to be improving more with each tank of gas. It gives a lot more interior room that previous prerunners that I have driven and a more comfortable ride.

  • update for 2001 Tacoma xcab 4x4 auto v6 sr5 trd - 2001 Toyota Tacoma

300,056 miles and still going. Exterior and interior starting to show its age and looking a little rusty and worn. Truck has sat outside its entire life. Had the frame coated under recall but I did not have the frame rust problems others have reported. Gas milage has gone down. Getting about 15 city and maybe 20 highway. Still no major issues or problems Thought about trading in for 2012 model but I really dont care for the larger size of the new Tacomas. Hope to get another 100k out of this one.

  • Unacceptable Comfort - 2004 Toyota Tacoma

This vehicle, is probably the most uncomfortable vehicle I have ever owned, and my other vehicle is a Toyota Camry, no matter in what position I set it in, it is just not at all comfortable, I realize that this particular review will be ignored (Because of the negative feedback)but I sure wished I had my Dodge Ram back!.

  • Windshield sucks - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

i live in the Midwest drive on gravel roads daily and have had hundreds of rocks hit my windshield causing chips occasionally that can be repaired. I bought a brand new 2016 Tacoma and have had it 6 months the first tinny pebble that hit my windshield caused a 10 in crack. While checking on cost for new one I have discovered that Im not alone. Apparently these windshields are thinner than normal and crack with the slightest impact. At $1200 for junk oem replacement there needs to be a recall and redesign. Other than that I like the truck.

  • Owned them all and by far this is #1 - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

I speak from experience. Owned 86 SR5 22RET 4x4 (300K+), 91 SR5 4x4 (200K+), 96 T100 4x4, 96 4runner Limited, 95 Tacoma 4x4 (75K), 96 Tacoma 4x4 (75K). 99 Toy 4x4 Ext Cab (100K) As you can see I spent many a miles behind the wheel of a Toyota truck. Bought my 2005 to tow a 22 boat. Already after year and half put 30K miles on it. By far the best looking all around driveable Toyota truck I have ever owned. Towing and overall drivability is above all others. Long-distance HWY trips are now a dream. Reliability is always A+. The only thing I have to do with this truck is change the oil and air filter. See below for my few negative comments.

  • Dissapointed Owner - 2008 Toyota Tacoma

I bought this truck Feb 28,2008. I traded out of it with 17,000 mi Jan 1 2009. The front passenger floor board area was "creaking" whenever I drive over an uneven surface. They re-welded a joint that somehow came apart with only 13,000mi. My roof leaked because of a defect on the factory- installed roof rack (took them 3 times to fix). They replaced the outside seal around the windshield because it was making a "whistling noise" at 75 MPH. Truck wouldnt start sometimes and they couldnt figure out why. I just gave up on it and let somebody else worry about what else could go wrong with it. GOOD BYE TOYOTA FOREVER!! Its the end of an era.

Truck is five years old and is in perfect condition, no dents or scratches. I use synthetic oil throughout ... with K&N filters. I have never had one thing go wrong with my Toyota Prerunner.

  • My only vehicle - 2008 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I have owned dozens of vehicles, including five 4x4 trucks. Ive had Chevy, Dodge, Ford, Jeep and Land Rover, some new, some not. My 2007 Tacoma 4x4 double cab beats them all hands down. By far the best stock 4x4 I have ever driven, let alone owned. I highly recommend this truck as a primary vehicle, especially if you like to take it out into the hills frequently like I do. I put a ToyTec 3" lift in front and 1.5" add a leaf in back. This truck rocks!
