Overview & Reviews
Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.
Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

My first truck - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By Mark McKee - September 26 - 10:00 amMy 2001 2.4L Automatic Tacoma has been a blast to own and drive. While its not the tire- burning monster of a musclecar, it gets me to where I want to go in comfort. On 9+hr trips my back doesnt hurt and thats a good sign. Mechanically this thing is great. I expect many many years and 200,000+ miles of trouble-free service out of this vehicle. This was my first NEW vehicle purchase and the whole experience with Toyota and my Toyota dealer has been positive. I would purchase it again, and recommend this truck to anyone whos wanting to get an inexpensive (but nice) truck.

My 02 Tacoma 4x4 - 2003 Toyota Tacoma
By Mike in AZ. - September 26 - 10:00 amA great all around truck. The 4x4 with TRD package works great off road.High ground clearence, with skid plates protecting vital organs. The locking rear differential works great. The V6 has plenty of power, but sucks a little moore gas than I thought it would.A bit pricey.I think I payed to much for mine.If you think you can get a good deal on one,get it. dont hesitate.

Great Truck just getting broken in - 2003 Toyota Tacoma
By jeff s - September 24 - 10:00 amThis is a well built and good looking truck. I am a bit of a neat freak but i do still get comments 7 years later on how good this truck looks. The paint, body and style has held up really well. 2 minor recalls, it has never failed. I have the TRD off road, its a bit bumpy but thats what you pay for!

Tacoma number 4. Second Limited. - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
By Steve Arnold - September 22 - 4:39 amThis is the best yet. 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2016. All V6 and the last two being Limited. Wish it had power seats and collision warning. We really love the truck. We re get an easy 24 mpg at highway speeds of less than 80. Towing a 5,500 lb powerboat with a tandem axel trailer and of course brakes is not a problem for this truck. We get about 15mpg but thats to be excepted. Toyota has made another winner with the refreshed Taco. Made the right purchase. Not cheap but we got what we paid for. Having driven the Taco now for 7,000 miles Ive got an update to share. The tranny had a couple of issues that a computer update finally corrected. Constant searching for gears while on the hwy and delay when shifting from reverse to forward. All fixed by the update. Very happy once again.

Tacomas are a great little truck - 2003 Toyota Tacoma
By Joy Orton - September 21 - 9:20 amThese little Toyota 4X4s with a V6 are powerful fun little trucks to drive. They are reliable and frugal on gas. I only have two complaints. #1 They have a LOUSY turning radius. (I think Toyata did this to lower the rollover chance as the vehicle is slightly topheavy and thin... I like the metrics just not having them protect me.) #2 They dont have sufficient leg room for big people. My future wife and I are both over 6 I am longer in the torso and she longer in the legs. She cannot even fit her legs with the seats all the way back. This might not be as bad in the non King cab versions.

Unbelievable - 1997 Toyota Tacoma
By Bobo - September 19 - 8:10 pm260000 miles It still runs as good as the day I bought it. No oil leaks. 5000 miles between oil changes, oil is on the stick mark. No squeaks. Original clutch still very strong. Manual trans, all boxes very tight. No whines or noises. Steering box is perfect, The paint is still an (8+) This truck has taken me through more crap than any vehicle I can ever remember. Ive gone through 4 sets of front brakes, rear are originals, 1 starter, 2 batteries. I still have the second set of spark plugs in it and the second timing belt which I think I better change real soon. Dont let your wife use it or youll never get it back.

Tacoma Double Cab - 2002 Toyota Tacoma
By dieck - September 18 - 10:00 amI purchased the Tacoma Double cab after much research. If you negotiate with the dealer and get it near invoice, it is an excellent value. I have the space to carry 5 adults. This is perfect for us because My wife and I can take our infant daughter and two guests (another couple). The bed is much more utilitarian than an SUV of comperable size. With a spray in bedliner it can haul anything without risk of scratch or dent. The truck rides nicely with the TRD package and has enough ground clearance and a rear locker to get me out of anything I get myself into. Overall, I love it and would recommend it to anyone.
