My Tacoma is a regular cab short wheelbase 2WD with 2.4 L and automatic. It is fun to drive and very manuverable. It can haul the load when asked and gets fairly respectable gas mileage (20-24 mpg). I made several cross country trips with a loaded bed and it has performed just great.

I just purchased the 2wd V6 double cab with TRD. I must say this truck is awesome. I have done extensive research on this truck before buying. I looked at all the other competitors and the Toyato is the best hands down. Unfortunately I have heard a few horror stoies about Leaks around the dash and passenger door. Hopefully I wont have those problems

  • Solid truck after 45k hard miles - 2002 Toyota Tacoma

I bought this truck new, 2002 4X4 TRD xtracab. 2 years and 45,000 miles later Ive got no complaints at all. All Ive done is oil changes and other minor dealer recommended maintenance. Tires are ready to be replaced and brakes are at about 50%. Fuel efficiency could be a better... i get about 17 avg.

The ride deliver a decent power. Willing to rev any pick up trucks that wants to race. The seat is very confortable but not after for more than 2 hours non-stop ride. Most important, it catches attention to those who drives a different sport trucks. The engine power is there when you need it, especially when going to freeway.

  • Blown Engine but still like it - 2002 Toyota Tacoma

I have owned this truck since it was new. 4 cylinder, full 4-door model. The fuel economy sits around 19mpg highway fairly consistently. For the first 53k miles I abused the heck out of this truck. It is a gutless 4banger so I would push it to just over 100mph by pushing the OD/off on the shifter to drop a gear in order to get over 100. This was nearly every day for my commute because I literally am always running late. The minimum was 90mph (toll road 17 miles to work). Under the powertrain warranty I carved out cylinders 1 and 3, so I was given a new short-block and new lease on life. Ever since, I dont even let this thing slip into overdrive and baby her. Bought brand new in 02. No mechanical problems, only issue was rattle in dash. 4WD is great! Decent MPG for a v6 4WD ~19 overall.

  • Solid little truck - 2002 Toyota Tacoma

The Tacoma is a respectable little truck. In 6 years Ive put 75000 miles on it and only had to change tires, the battery, coolant, and oil. One thing in particular, is the steering has never gotten out of alignment, I had it checked when I replaced the OEM tires. It was right on. That was at 35000 miles. It is reliable, but slightly underpowered for its weight. It only gets about 18 mpg overall; in a range from 15 to 25 mpg. The interior is appealing except the seats are too lightweight. A seat spring makes noise sometimes. It also needs keyless entry. The headlights have never been changed and have been burning for 75000 miles! Same goes for other lights too. Ive had no major problems

  • Not sure if its worth it yet....... - 2002 Toyota Tacoma

Seems like a decent compact truck so far. Could use more power, a little pricy for what I got. Seems solid, though and a nice ride. I had a Ford Ranger previously (a 1991), and loved it. Could use a 3rd door on Xtra cab, Auto Tranny makes acceleration a bit sluggish at times. Who put the clock there? You cant see it from the driving position. And if you install a CD AND Cassette player, why wouldnt you provide storage for CDs as well?? Cassettes went out long ago, yet armrest has cassette storage area. Dual accessory power outlets a BIG plus! Overall, a nice ride....just not sure on the value... give me a couple of years.

4 doors are great and I dont find the size of the bed to be an issue. Reliable, handles well, especially in snow. Not the most comfortable ride on bumpy dirt roads, but fine on the highway. I highly recommend it.

  • Great Little Truck - 2002 Toyota Tacoma

I selected the Toyota Tacoma after comparison with Ford Ranger and Mazda 4000. Toyota was slightly more expensive but beat the competition in every other category. Great little truck with a reputation for running forever without breakdown. Requires a 1000 very gentle break in period which is unusual and a pain but that may be how it stays together for so long.
