This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota releases the Tundra pickup-based Sequoia, a full-size SUV that represents the first serious challenge to the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, Ford Expedition and GMC Yukon from across either ocean.

Pros:
  • Creamy V8 engine meets ULEV standards, spews 40 percent fewer NMOG pollutants than Expedition, rugged good looks, optional stability control system, curtain-shield side airbags, massive ground clearance, third row of seats.

  • GREAT SUV FOR THE PRICE - 2001 Toyota Sequoia

We bought this car the month it came out! Except for some early brake problems (which the dealership changed for free a few times), the car has been totally reliable, has a nice perky pickup for the monster it is (6,000lbs), and is much roomier than the Lexus 470 or the other same-size options. I would have liked fold-flat third-row seats and a DVD system in the rear for the kids, but as I only really use the second row of seats every day, its not a big deal.

  • Will I Buy Another Toyota? - 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Rattles worse than 10 year old Explorer. Fold up seats take foot off cargo capacity. JBL radio does not work. Speakers fade in and out - now only one speaker working. Supposedly a TSB on this. Repeated trips to the dealer "I cant make any money on this" service managers quote! Interior fit and finish are average - side of leather seat already has a wear-hole. Car hesitates on acceleration after sharp turn, etc., etc. Very dissapointed in quality AND service. Toyota should be ashamed and should fire the service manager. After all of this the dealer charges me $40 for rental car. Toyota? Never again!!!!

Overall very comfortable. Inspite of its size, handles well even at high speeds and in hilly areas. Not too difficult to parallel park. Gives 17-19mpg on Highway. about 15 in city of boise Had to replace tires at 20,000 and front brakes are already gone with just over 21000 miles.

It is a very reliable SUV. it is fun to drive and when you push it you can hear that iforce 4.7 v8 roaring down the street. This SUV can last you year and it not a very high maintenance car. This are made to be off road and right now i got 20 inch falken rims and when i bring it on the grass or dirt it preforms like a monster.

  • Love it but ready to move on! - 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Weve loved the room and comfort of the Sequoia but we are spending a fortune on gas! It has been a very reliable vehicle for us but weve had a few problems. Air conditioning in 2nd row stopped working, VSC went out, front brake rotors warped, back latch broke. Spending 2K/year on maintenance.

  • everything is a "mandatory option" - 2001 Toyota Sequoia
    By -

Great car in general -- the wife loves it. But I had to pay for it. Toyotas and Gulf States Toyotas (the distributor) "mandatory options" have left a very bad taste in my mouth. I settled on the dealership with the best attitude (most refuse to deal) although they are still tough to deal with. I was forced to buy options I didnt want. You have to pay extra for wheels??, floor mats, etc. Then Gulf States Toyota forces you to buy a $1,200 mandatory "extra mile" option package (10 yr limited floor mat warranty, glass breakage, etching -- hardly a good value). Whats next a $3,000, 30 year sunvisor warranty?

  • Toyota Sequoia... Best big SUV any day! - 2001 Toyota Sequoia

I am writing this review after 9 years of ownership. Our Toyota Sequoia is nothing less than the perfect big SUV for our active family. It has hit the 100,000 miles without a single mechanical problem, not a single incident. It has towed our boat to many lakes, taken us to the deserts, mountains, favorite off-road camping spots, long summer trips. This vehicle is a pleasure to drive on and off road, comfort level is only surpassed by the Land Cruiser, which we own, but our Sequoia is king for hauling our gear, bikes, and all the equipment we take on family outings. We tow our boat about three times a week over hilly terrain and our Sequoia does it with no effort at all. Simply the best SUV

Love it. Gets us through the snow as we live in Canada.

What a quality ride! Bought it used (certified) and have never had a problem, and it rides like a car. Recommend you buy good quality driving tires like Goodyear Forteras - they made all the difference in comfort, handling and mileage and they wear so much better than OTR tires. Unfortunately, you dont realize youre going 85 mph until its too late (gotten my share of tickets even with a radar detector)! Just put her on cruise and enjoy! My only issue with her is the anti-slip/TRAC system: Ive had it start pulling in wet road conditions but think it was perhaps because of a couple of under-inflated tires.

  • Been waitin for 3 years since rumors! - 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Other than Honda, been waiting for full size ute that wasnt Landcruiser price range. Got Ltd 2wd loaded minus side airbags, 41.5k for my wife, only time I got to drive after bringing it home was once a week. I love it, she loves it more, that = I get to drive once a week. Got so fed up, found a used 2001 SR5 leather, 15k miles for 31.5k.(I didnt believe it either) Now we are a 2 Sequoia family. I am smiling now. Almost opted for Tahoe/Yukon. Knew of Toyota quality. The Seq just gets all types of looks! Hers is white, Mines is Thunder Gray/champagne trim.
