Toyota releases the Tundra pickup-based Sequoia, a full-size SUV that represents the first serious challenge to the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, Ford Expedition and GMC Yukon from across either ocean.

Pros:
  • Creamy V8 engine meets ULEV standards, spews 40 percent fewer NMOG pollutants than Expedition, rugged good looks, optional stability control system, curtain-shield side airbags, massive ground clearance, third row of seats.

comfort, handle, style, fuel efficient for size, extremely comfortable vehicle. we took this vehicle on a 18 hour drive to disney world and it is absolutely wonderful. other large sport utility vehicles dont compare. the expedition, navigator, yukon, hummer, cadillac, all fall a distant 2nd to the overall value, ride, and dependability. if you have the opportunity to get one get it.

Sequoia is great to drive. Engine/transmission MUCH smoother than in my 98 Navigator. Big inside yet feels smaller to drive. Very quiet. Have had problems with rear window, interior plastic pieces, terrible design for rear controlled AC. Averall a great SUV, but without modifications would not repurchase.

My 2001 4WD Sequoia has 110K miles and is driven in town by a soccer mom who does not go off road. So far these parts have failed: both front wheel bearings, the rear differential, rear window motor, LF window motor, A/C (compressor, evaporator, and something else- been to dealer 5 times for a/c problems). Engine has had oil replaced every 4K miles and has a knock in it. All failures due to faulty parts. I am thankful I invested in the platnum 0 ded bumper-bumper 100K mile warranty. The driver side seat is designed to wear a hole in the side (90K miles) from getting in/out. Gas mileage avg 12-18 mpg. Toyota Corp customer service not helpful. No problems since last major repair ~80K mi

Just an average SUV, with some annoying issues, like brakes that need replacement too often, doors that wont stay open and a poor speaker system, lack of ease when trying to get to the rear seats

Love this SUV. Had an old GMC Jimmy that just finally died from hard wear but I loved it dearly. We replaced it with a 1999 Grand Cherokee that I hated. The Toyota Sequoia was the replacement for the Grand Cherokee. We have driven it across the country literally and up and down the East Coast. It is a very smooth riding vehicle and excellent for long trips. It will hold and amazing amount especially if the back back seats are removed. Easy to do. Everybody loves it.

  • Cant beat it for the money - 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Having owned a Tahoe, Yukon and Expedition over the past 10 years I can say that the Sequoia is a vastly superior car. Now, I have only owned it for three months, but it is a 2001 4X4 with 125,000 miles and I am the second owner. The first owner gave me an inch of paperwork, 99% of it was oil changes and scheduled maintenance. The CD player was replaced at 95,000 miles along with the passenger power window button. Other than that all has been good. It drives like brand new and I am really impressed by the interior. The seats are still very firm and comfortable with no sign of wear. I am hoping to get another 50,000 or about three years. I paid $9,500.
