This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota releases the Tundra pickup-based Sequoia, a full-size SUV that represents the first serious challenge to the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, Ford Expedition and GMC Yukon from across either ocean.

Pros:
  • Creamy V8 engine meets ULEV standards, spews 40 percent fewer NMOG pollutants than Expedition, rugged good looks, optional stability control system, curtain-shield side airbags, massive ground clearance, third row of seats.

This is the best buy I have made. I got rid of a Lincoln Navigator to get this SUV and I am glad I did. The Navigator was in the shop almost as much as it was on the road, the Sequoia has been in only for oil changes. It is great!

Overall the vehicle is fine. However, the driver side window has been squeeky lately. I went to open the window the other day, and the glass almost completely turned around. Took it into the dealership and guess what? Not covered under warranty. They want $700 to replace the motor. Im sorry, but for something that has nothing to do with the actual "running" of the car should include reasonable wear and tear. What else does one do with a window besides press the button to roll it up or down? Im pretty mad about this and Corporate Toyota will be getting a call.

  • Comfort Cruiser and its a Toyota! - 2001 Toyota Sequoia

A good all around vehicle. Have owned this vehicle for a little over a year and the only thing I have had to do is change the oil twice. It drives so smooth that you had better use the cruise or you will be seeing the cherries and berries in the auto-dimming rear view mirror. The sound system puts the Bose in my Acura to shame. Easy to install a receiver hitch and wire harness for a do it yourselfer. Enough power to haul a built up CJ-5 and a massive carhauler over Vail and Eisenhauer Passes at the speed limit. The rear seats all have plenty of room for even the tallest passengers. The center console is huge! Can have two mountain bikes with the front wheels off standing in the rear

I own 3 4 Runners. My brother bought a Tundra and I loved it. When the sequoia came out I had to have one. We looked for a used one with no luck. So we finally bought one for X-mas. Very impressive. Comfortable and quiet ride. Went to Disney and avged 18.7MPG. Has good power and looks awsome! All factory options plus: spoiler, bug deflector, running boards, trip computer, pwr front seats, driving lights, tow pkg, keyless entry, alarm, and factory tinted windows. Silver Sky in color. Really tough SUV inside and out. I LOVE IT!!!

I bought my Sequoia in 2001 with just the dealer miles on it. Now, it has about 190,000 miles. I have done the regular services on it. It now needs the 180,000 timing belt change, etc. This SUV is incredible. It is still tight, quiet, and like new inside and out. It still does not burn any oil between changes. I stated using synthetic about 4 years ago. At this point, I wonder how long it will last. So far, no problems at all.

  • My Love/Hate Relationship - 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Lets see...what hasnt gone wrong. My engine knocks like someone is hitting it with a hammer in cold weather...no kidding! I had the steering rack replaced due to failure. Ive had driveline vibrations that Toyota cant figure out and feel like they are causing damage since 454 miles. I"ve had the brakes serviced four times. Ive got an exhaust smell of rotten eggs entering the cabin upon acceleration. The VSC system kicks in and I lose all power at "very exciting" times, like entering fast moving traffic! Thats not everything! However, I love to drive it, believe it or not. I just wish Toyota could resolve all of my issues.

I purchased this used the summer of 2011 with 130,000 miles on the odometer and would never have purchased it with that many miles had I not seen records of the service that the original owner religiously followed at a local Toyota dealership. A new transmission was put in at just under 60k miles but otherwise the areas of complaint that I have read about including undersized brakes, frame rust-through and cracked exhaust headers I have not experienced (yet). I installed a trailer brake controller for towing a twin-axle 14 foot cargo trailer with GVWR of 6,500 lbs. I will also be driving it in the winter when the snow is too deep for my Miata.
