This Year's Model Updates:

Already sporty-looking, the RAV4 compact SUV gets even sportier thanks to a new optional sport package that adds a new grille, a hood scoop, color-keyed door handles, heated exterior mirrors, tubular roof rack and gray-painted bumpers and overfenders. Inside, the package adds special sport fabric seats.

Pros:
  • Steers and handles like a car, thoughtful cabin design, well-built interior.
Cons:
  • Small displacement engine for the class, noisy, most of the desirable equipment is optional.

  • So far, so good... - 2003 Toyota RAV4

Just bought this a couple months ago and loving it. A little pricey for the Sport package, considering its all cosmetic, but it does sharpen the looks quite a bit. Rides and handles almost as comfortably as the 1999 Camry we turned at end-of-lease to buy this. A little bumpier, a little noisier, but the plusses far outweight the few minuses. Love the space and ease, very comfortable, almost feels more like a station wagon than an SUV, but so compact and easy to handle.

Bought my Rav4L new 12 plus yrs.ago. Most dependable vehicle I have ever owned. Drove it for over 800 miles a wk for work. Starts in sub-zero weather, when our expensive vehicles would not. Maintenace cost almost nothing. Usual stuff....tires,got 109,000 out of one set, battery, brakes, wiper blades etc. this vehicle has saved me a fortune !!! Im retired and now my trusted vehicle is used for leisure, golf trips, ballgames etc. If I covered the odometer, you would think the vehicle has less than 50 K. Going to buy my wife a 2016 Rav, safe, dependable, fun to drive.

  • Great little SUV - 2003 Toyota RAV4

So far it has been a great little SUV. Some have said the finish was not as good as other toyotas? We find it comparable to our Sequoia which is excellent.

Love this little SUV! A little slow at first, but once you reach top speed, it flies! Very quiet inside when windows closed. Very stable in high winds and bad weather. Stock Air and stereo/cd package quite good.

No power? Come on, this thing is plenty peppy! Absolutely no problem on entrance ramps. (OK, so I dont exactly live in hill country.) As for the sound system, mines got bass to burn! And the controls are convenient and logical. The tweeters give it good presence. This car is a joy to drive, if a little bouncy in the ride. I suppose thats the tradeoff for its superior handling.

  • The best SUV I have ever had! - 2003 Toyota RAV4

I have been a lover of SUVs since 1988. I have tested almost the best of the most renown automobile manufacturers in the world. I have never had such a great feeling of stability and control while driving one. When behind the wheel, it give you the feeling that you and your RAV 4, are part of the same moving body, and you can actually feel the extension of your senses out of your body and around the vehicle. The first time I took the car for a test drive, it was so handy and easy, it gave the dealer the idea this is going to be my second RAV 4 in the garage! I have loved this model, and congratulate Toyota for such great success!

Very fun to drive. Great handling and manuverability. Excellent in the city. Power is certainly adequate. You can maintain 80 to 85 mph on the interstate easily. Gas mileage averages about 24 mpg. Easily pulls a small (4x6) trailer with a good load on it.

  • Toyota will pay for transmission repairs - 2003 Toyota RAV4

I just found a link to an article that documents that Toyota will pay for ECM failures/transmission rebuilds. Here is the link:http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/07/13/toyota-extends-warranty-on-troubled-2001-3-rav4/. You can call the center in Torrance, Calif at 800-468-7814 for more info. I am going to get back my repair costs of $4300 for a rebuilt transmission and ECM module replacement.
