This Year's Model Updates:

Already sporty-looking, the RAV4 compact SUV gets even sportier thanks to a new optional sport package that adds a new grille, a hood scoop, color-keyed door handles, heated exterior mirrors, tubular roof rack and gray-painted bumpers and overfenders. Inside, the package adds special sport fabric seats.

Pros:
  • Steers and handles like a car, thoughtful cabin design, well-built interior.
Cons:
  • Small displacement engine for the class, noisy, most of the desirable equipment is optional.

My 2003 RAV4 Sport is the 5th Toyota product we have purchased and it has delivered satisfaction. Those who have slammed the mini-"ute" have somehow forgotten that this is a 4 cylinder mini-suv. For driving around the city and periodic trips on the interstate the performance is satisfying. I have had no problems keeping up with more expensive vehicles on the interstate and at 75mph, the ride is quiet and comfortable. I am very satisfied with my RAV and yes it does deserve its rating as the top rated min- suv by Consumer Reports.

Thought we wanted another CRV Honda....didnt get a good feeling when calling around about stock...bought new RAV 4 instead...our first Toyota...we love it...wish Toyota made motorhomes...our Damon Ultrasport is a piece of junk compared to the Toyota...from now on...its only Toyota for us...

Weve now had our RAV for 4 years and its still running like new. We had a Corolla before this that had absolutely zero problems. I perform my own mechanic work so I thought Id give some feedback in that respect. 55,000 miles with no oil leaks anywhere. Oil filter location is the easiest Ive ever experienced. The motor has a timing chain, not a belt. Annoying rattle developed around the glove box and finally narrowed it down to plastic grommets that hold plastic panels under the windshield wipers. A design flaw in my opinion. The battery is tucked under this area which makes it difficult if you ever needed a jump start. We invested in a Black & Decker jump starter just in case.

  • Good, but could use some improvements - 2003 Toyota RAV4

This is my wifes car, and she is enjoying it very much, as its been a good car for us. Has a nice ride, very comfortable, does well in the poor weather, and handles great for an SUV. I find the power to be quite adequate(and I Trans Am fairly often!) for most conditions, the only time it is lacking is on steep inclines when the transmission hunts for gears. The negatives are that there is alot of wind, road, and driveline noise that enters the cabin at highway speeds. Also the car has already developed 2 rattles in just over 2 years of ownership - not what I expected from Toyota. Gas mileage is underwhelming for a small car with a small engine, 25mpg is par for highway drives at 65-70.

cannot determine if car is of poor quality or dealership is the problem. rattle in dash took 6 months to fix leather seats were flawed and could not get replacement for 7 months. brakes pulled to right after rain. squeaking noise in rear.

I am a Toyota person and I had some reservation about the RAV4 but I loved the body style. I had 184,000 mile on my Camry and I need a new vehicle I shopped until I dropped and Hatfields gave me the best deal I went on week end trip and I love my new RAV4 it has the all wheel drive. I went from a V6 back to a 4 cyclinder and I love it.I cant say enought good this.

Very easy to drive, great fuel economy compared to other SUVs, and the fact that its a Toyota says a lot. Engine is quiet and heats up quickly in cold conditions.
